Cassadaga Valley Central School Announces Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Corinne Fredrickson, the daughter of Allen and Hope Fredrickson of Sinclairville, is the valedictorian of the Class of 2008. Throughout her high school career she has been an active participant in a number of groups and extracurricular activities, holding such prominent offices as treasurer of the Thespian Society, Valley Minstrels, and French Club; president of the History Club and her freshmen class; vice president of Key Club; co-editor of the Cassadaga Valley yearbook staff; and co-captain of the volleyball team. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American Students and has been a part of the All-County Chorus held at Chautauqua Institute each June; the Envirothon held each spring; and several leadership and performing arts camps throughout the summer. Corinne also has participated in several summer enrichment sessions including intensive studies in Creative Writing and Field Biology. Her most treasured activities, however, are undoubtedly her avid participation in her school's musical productions including Honk!, Once on This Island, Pippi, Blood Brothers, Flight of the Lawnchairman, and Seussical. She has had the honor of receiving many awards and scholarships throughout her high school career including the CVCS Faculty Association Award, the Cassadaga Valley Civic Award, the 2008 Scholar Athlete Award, the United States Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, the Mary-Ann Bender Memorial Scholarship, the United States Air Force Math and Science Award, the Award of Excellence in Academics as well as Honor Roll distinction throughout high school and Academic Achievement awards in all of her core classes.

Corinne will attend Houghton College in the fall majoring in biology with a focus on environmental science. She has received the distinguished Houghton Chamberlin Scholarship and has been chosen to be a Chamberlin Scholar while attending. She hopes to eventually major in entomology.

Corinne would like to thank her parents and sister for their patience, love and support ... and for giving her wings to fly.

Cassandra Mathers, daughter of Paul and Susan Mathers is the salutatorian of the Cassadaga Valley Central School Class of 2008. She is a member of National Honor Society. Throughout her high school career, Cassandra has participated in many extracurricular activities including Valley Minstrels, French Club; where she served as Vice-President for two years, softball, basketball, and volleyball. She was co-captain of all three sports in her senior year and earned honors including the 2007 Post-Journal Softball All-Star Team, Division II First Team Softball All-Star, Division II First Team Basketball All-Star, and was a member of the 2008 All Western New York Scholar Athlete Team for basketball. She was also recognized as a Fessenden, Laumer, and DeAngelo Scholar Athlete for Fall 2007.

Outside of school, Cassandra volunteers as a tutor, participated in the Babe Ruth Softball program; traveling to New Jersey for the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in 2006 and 2007, and works with aspiring softball and basketball youth. Her hobbies include reading, swimming, the outdoors, the Sabres and playing with her dogs.

Cassandra will continue her education in the fall at Nazareth College of Rochester where she will major in biology with a concentration in pre-veterinary medicine.
