CAMPBELL - A Jamestown Community College faculty member is in an Elmira hospital after an accident on Interstate 86 early Wednesday morning.

The Steuben County Sheriff's Department says Paul Hedberg, 58, of Jamestown was stopped in the eastbound lane around 1 a.m., following a separate accident in which a tractor trailer overturned and blocked the road.

While Hedberg was stopped on the interstate, another tractor trailer driven by Noel Bollozos, 46, of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, reportedly failed to stop for the line of cars and hit Hedberg's car, sending it 50 yards onto the right side of the road.

Two other cars were damaged in the accident, but neither the drivers of those cars nor the truck driver were hurt.

Hedberg was airlifted to Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira for treatment of head and leg injuries. He underwent surgery during the day Wednesday.

Nelson Garifi, Jamestown Community College marketing and alumni affairs director, said the college learned of the accident early Wednesday morning.

''We're very concerned for Paul,'' Garifi said. ''We've had a number of calls and inquiries, and we're waiting to hear more on his condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his wife, Ruth.''

Hedberg was in the area attending a State University of New York conference of business officers. As assistant dean of administration at JCC, he works closely on the college's budget and oversees purchasing, the mail room and other aspects of the administration.
