A life long area resident, he was born Aug. 17, 1936 in Jamestown, the son of the late Hilmer B. and Ingeborg Nelson Johnson.
Duane was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving in the Korean War, and prior to retirement in 1996 was employed by Carborundum – Monofrax for 40 years.
He attended Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church and was a member of the American Red Cross Century Club. He spent many hours researching family and local history at the Jamestown Prendergast Library and received a letter of recognition from the Lucy Desi Museum for his contributions to the museum. He also enjoyed watching WWE Wrestling.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Ann Woodfield Johnson, whom he married July 5, 1958 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point; two sons: Steven (Virginia) Johnson of Lakewood, and Dan (Debbie) Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Diane Lewis (George Palmeri) of Falconer; eight grandchildren: Matthew, David, Amber, Daniel Jr., Jason, Tina, Amberly Johnson and Andrew Lewis; a brother, Kermit B. Johnson of Rotanda, Fla.; a sister Doreen Lauer of Jamestown; and his mother-in-law, Arlene Woodfield of Panama.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly L. Trubic.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Janaczek, pastor of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received by the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral service Monday.
