Area Seniors Slate Monday Meeting

POSTED: June 5, 2008

The Cassadaga-Stockton-Lily Dale Senior Citizens will meet at noon Monday at the American Legion hall in Cassadaga. New members and guests are always welcome. The program will be presented by David Christy on pre-planned funerals.

The group recently met with 52 present. June Woollett, president, led the meeting. The blessing for the dinner was given by Rev. Bill Gow. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of ‘‘God Bless America.’’

The door prize was won by Dan Goede. Drawing winners included Lorraine Courson, Beulah Williams, Bonnie Steinhoff and Helen Rich.

The minutes of the April meeting were read by Vivian Gow, secretary, and approved. A thank you note for donations to the Cassadaga Food Pantry was read. Florine Christy, treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report. Upon motion by Lena Elliott the treasurer’s report was accepted.

Celebrating May birthdays were Beulah Williams and Florine Christy. Wedding anniversaries celebrated were Lois and Don Franz, 61; Dorothy and Charlie Reading, 64; and Bob and Dorothy Peterson 61.

Ill members reported were Ken Wise, Richard Martin and Ruth Crabtree.

Darlene Goede gave a travel report. Since it was necessary to cancel the April 30 trip to the Sugar Shack, she returned the $150 advanced by the club. There are still a few openings for the trip June 19 to Shea’s in Buffalo to see ‘‘Wicked.’’ There will also be a trip Sept. 28 to the Riverside Inn for a Medieval Dinner Theater.

Upcoming meetings were noted. On July 14, there will be a pot luck picnic at the Legion Picnic Grounds. On Aug. 11, the annual chicken barbecue will be held at the Legion picnic grounds.

For the program, Bob Peterson gave a very interesting and enlightening talk on his experiences in World War II.

The kitchen committee, consisting of Darlene Goede, Lorraine Courson, Lois Franz and Louise Page, was thanked. Carrol Kennedy will head the committee for June. Volunteers for the kitchen committee are needed for July and on.
