Bears Take Over First Place In Div. 2

Frewsburg collected its eighth league victory against just one loss while Cattaraugus-Little Valley dropped to 7-3 in the division.
The Bears were down 1-0 in the first, then tied game in bottom of the inning when Jake Sleasman and Asa Johnson both singled. Sleasman stole third and scored on a Dan Eckstrom fielder’s choice to tie the game.
The Timberwolves regained the lead in the fourth when Justin Harvey produced an infield single, was sacrificed to second and scored on single by David Draudt to make it 2-1.
The scored stayed the same until the bottom of the sixth when Eckstrom was hit by a pitch to lead off. Jake Hyldahl entered the game as a pinch runner and Shawn Himes attempted a sacrifice bunt, but was also hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Thad Johnson sacrificed the runners to second and third and Hyldahl scored on a wild pitch, followed by RBI singles from Grey, Matt Coe and Dalton Scalf .
Grey pitched into the seventh, giving up two runs, six hits with two walks while striking out 11 batters and Asa Johnson came in to get the final two outs to earn the save.
Harvey was losing pitcher for the Timberwolves, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk with five strikeouts while Rigel Johnson tripled and Draudt two hits in the losing effort.
Chautauqua Lake Edges WV
Chautauqua Lake (5-9) scored two runs early and that proved to be just enough as Brent Blakeslee and Dan Courtney combined on a two-hitter, defeating West Valley, 3-1, in a Division 2 game played Friday at Diethrick Park.
Blakeslee started and pitched the first two innings, giving up just one hit and Courtney took over from there, also surrendering one hit while allowing only two West Valley runners to reach base. He struck out five and walked none on 59 pitches to claim the win.
The Thunderbirds took the lead in the first with two outs when Shane Nusom drilled an RBI triple and Blakeslee added an RBI double.
West Valley (9-7) got a run back in the second on an RBI double by Chris Burger, but Chautauqua Lake iced things in the top of the seventh when Kai Anderson singled, stole second and scored on a throwing error.
For the winners, Nusom doubled and tripled, Nate Paddock had double and single and Anderson collected two hits.
Jayson Kagelmacher pitched a complete game, surrendering three runs on seven hits in picking up the loss.
Cougars Cruise To Victory
BEMUS POINT — The Cassadaga Valley Cougars (8-5) capitalized on Maple Grove’s errors and timely hitting as they defeated the Red Dragons, 11-5.
The Cougars finished with only two earned runs as they knocked off Maple Grove. They also received steallar pitching from Brian Barmore, who fanned three and walked two in a complete game seven-hitter.
B.J. Monacelli and Travis Carlson both had two hits to pace the Cassadaga Valley offense while Dan Meder connected for a double.
Joey Caporale led Maple Grove with a double and a solo home run. Alex Smith added two hits and two RBIs.
Tyler Lindquist took the loss for the Red Dragons. He went four innings, struck out three and walked four.
Cardinals Beat Black Knights
RANDOLPH — Chris Erdmann and Blake Morrison allowed seven hits as Randolph (3-7, 5-9) defeated Silver Creek, 6-3.
Erdmann went the first five innings and Morrison the final two for the victory.
Matt Hettenbaugh drove in three runs with two hits, Tyler Mendell delivered two hits and Morrison added a two-run double.
P. J. Klisiewicz singled twice for Silver Creek (1-9).
