Middleton defeated his regular-season teammate, Aaron Young, 6-1, 6-0, in the semifinals and Marcus Johnston of Fredonia, 7-6, 6-3 in the finals at the Lakewood Family YMCA on Thursday.
‘‘Marcus was one of Middleton’s toughest matches of the year,’’ said Southwestern tennis coach Rod Beckerink. ‘‘There were some close matches.’’
Earning the first seed on the doubles side was the Maple Grove tandem of Tyler Beaton and Wil Nelson who slipped by the Southwestern duo of Ted Mueller and Tim O’Brien, 6-4, 7-6, in the semifinals.
In the finals, Beaton and Nelson defeated the other team of Trojans — Chris Cusimano and Andrew Gerace, 6-4, 6-2.
‘‘Beaton and Nelson played two solid matches,’’ Beckerink said. ‘‘They played great together as a team and made very few errors.’’
To round out the seeds for sectionals, Matt Anderson of Chautauqua Lake earned the third spot, losing to Johnston and defeating Young, 6-3, 7-6.
The doubles team from Southwestern, Mueller and O’Brien, settled for the third seed, defeating the Jamestown combination of Allan Miller and Chris Carlson, 6-1, 6-0.
The sectionals will start at 3 p.m., Tuesday at Lancaster High School.
