NEW YORK (AP) — Officials have issued a hazardous travel advisory ahead of a snow storm approaching New York City.
The city's Office of Emergency Management says Friday drivers should stay off the roads Saturday and if they do drive, they should go slowly and stick to major streets or highways. OEM says walkers should beware of slippery sidewalks and walkways.
The National Weather Service forecasts four to six inches of snow accumulation Saturday. It says rain is expected as well that could freeze over, creating dangerous conditions.
The Department of Sanitation has also issued a snow alert beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
And the Department of Transportation suspended alternate side parking regulations for Saturday ahead of the storm. It says payment at parking meters will remain in effect.
