CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — A New York man has been found guilty of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to shoot an undercover state investigator during a 2011 drug sting.
Newsday (http://bit.ly/1kHJJal ) reports Nicholas Hansen wept in state Supreme Court in Central Islip (EYE'-slihp) Friday when the verdict was read.
The 23-year-old Long Island man was also found guilty of weapon and drug charges.
Prosecutors say Senior State Police Investigator Kevin Ring shot Hansen four times after he stepped out of a car with a gun drawn during the deal. They say Hansen then fired at the investigator but missed.
Hansen's lawyers argued he couldn't have known Ring was an officer when he fired the shots and was worried he was going to be robbed.
He's scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 14.
