If we are going to act on moral obligation we will have to go to the corrupt and poor countries and kill all the thugs and enforce law so people can prosper there. How about we stick to law in our own country instead. Maybe the UN can stick its ample compassionate nose in those other countries' business. Maybe the libs could kick in their generosity deficit and make those countries places people want to stay rather than working on making this one a place people want to leave.

There is no end of pious politically correct rubbish about the Indians. Despite the racial fantasies of the left, there was no United Indian America. Each group (band, tribe, nation, or empire) gleefully tortured and slaughtered anyone else for any number of reasons. Particular groups often were where we found them because they had won wars. First thing they wanted Europeans to help them kill their enemies. History, like war, is about power, not justice, not priority, not race. Indians were human, vicious, war-like, and unjust - just like us and everyone else.

Bluesman don't let the name calling, gunny wantabees bother you. The name calling starts when they know they can't win the argument any other way. They accuse those with a difference of opinion of lacking intelligence. That's supposed to make them seem smart. LOL We have great laws but they are not being enforced and millions of aliens saturating our economy is unsustainable. That is a simple fact. 90% of the "children are not 12 and under. They are older teens, some gang members, adults, mothers to be etc. A nation needs boarders and needs to be able to defend those borders. There is no way to justify what is happening.

1st of all no one, other than a natural born American, has an unfettered right to enter this country. Non Americans wishing to enter this country do so only at the pleasure of the U.S. government's authorized immigration policies. We don't have to allow ANYONE in at all if that's congress' determination!JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO COME HERE DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE ALLOWED TOO! As far as that piece of poetry on the Statue of Liberty goes, understand that it was written at a time when the country could use all the strong backs it could get. It didn't matter if you could read or write. If you could wield a shovel in a coal mine, walk behind a horse plow or do mindless work in a New York City sweatshop there was a place for you. Unfortunately there is scant demand for that sort of unskilled labor today. That sort of immigrant ends up being a public burden. Both the Democrat and Republican parties are the enemy. The Dems want welfare voters and the Repubs want cheap labor.

troglodyte, are you saying our laws need looking at again? That they are antiquated? If course if that is true they would just be carlaw and your laws that need tweaking, I would wager.

The United States is a unique place where good values are held are many. Not all, but many coming do not acclimate to the American way. They rape us by getting free, or close to free housing, medical, etc. We as a country have laws, break them and there should be consequences. Crossing into our country w/o going through proper procedures is breaking our laws. All the big talkers speaking of compassion... Why not spend your money and your time teaching the people to change their own countries so they can have the life they want in their native countries. I point that out due to the fact that they don't come to live as AMERICANS, they expect special treatment and demands to change everything in America to the ways of the countries they were born. I am a very compassionate person, I give to many resources that I choose. Don't want my tax dollars paying for people that feel entitled whether they are born here, enter legally, or illegally.

Good points Trog and George but too many people vote for a living now days to want to acknowledge the seriousness of this crisis. They too are patriotic at the core but the government has gotten total control of their sustenance and they fear reason and sanity and logic if something interfears with that sustenance.

When the statue of Liberty was erected and the verse composed, there was about one person where there are seven now. The crowding, demand on resources, and pollution are enough and much more. Immigration laws had been on the books already for decades. Applicants were examined and some turned back. Immigration was viewed at least partially in long term perspective. Today's issues involve illegality, short term and political goals, racial, ethnic, and cultural revolution, and immediate gain for some at the expense of others. And lies; propaganda, spin, posturing, diversion, and lies.

But Lucky you are also right in not letting the Republicans in the House off the hook. They could change the laws and pass it in the House. The Senate would never pass it and the President would veto it but so what!! they should do it any way. They don't do it because then Democrats would call them bigoted. They should do the right thing anyway and try to change the laws.

Lucky you are right, and so is the letter writer. However, Obama is the President and has the power to stop this crisis. He, instead has given false ideas of Amnesty. the Illeagals themselves say "Obama will take care of us".

There is no comparison to the LEGAL immigration that occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century and what is occurring now. What is occurring now is nothing short of an invasion.

My ancestors came here by following the rules.

They did not hit America's shores with the intent to live off the American taxpayers. They worked hard, expecting nothing for free. They learned English and made sure their children were raised speaking English. Most importantly, despite adversity and prejudice, they appreciated the opportunity that America provided and became productive Americans.

#10 raises another question. Are the immigrants crossing into this country from Mexico in Mexico legally? If they are in Mexico illegally, just how hard is Mexico hunting them and deporting them. Only law abiding people care about laws, so you can have all the laws you want and the illegals will never stop. The current child immigration laws are a Republican idea so the republicans should either support them or admitted they screwed up and work to change them. Not blame Obama for "opening the borders" hoping nobody will notice.

73capri: " I don't want to shake up your world to much, but not all people on welfare are minorities." Those are your words and your thoughts, not mine. Don't change the subject by putting your words into my mouth. I feel the same way about Italian, Swedish, German,French, Asian or another kind of Immigrant. This subject is for serious discussion. We can't call our selves a country if we have no boarders. That is my opinion and you are entitled to yours, but don't avoid the seriousness of the issue by putting words into to my mouth and painting me with your bigoted definition of Republicans.

con't 9. Foreigners may have NO protests; NO demonstrations, NO waving of a foreign flag, no political organizing, NO bad-mouthing our president or his policies. These will lead to deportation. 10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be actively hunted and, when caught, sent to jail until your deportation can be arranged. All assets will be taken from you. Too strict.? The above laws are the current immigration laws of MEXICO.! If it's good for American's to obey Mexican laws, then it's good vice versa.!!!

New Immigration Laws! 1. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools. 2. All ballots will be in this nation's language. 3. All government business will be conducted in our language. 4. Non-residents will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they are here. 5. Non-citizens will NEVER be able to hold political office. 6. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, or any other government assistance programs. Any who are a burden will be deported. 7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount at least equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage. 8. If foreigners come here and buy land, their options will be restricted. Certain parcels including waterfront property are reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

Carlaw, your republican stereotype prejudice is showing. You have no idea why people are crossing the border. In our area they have detained many illegal migrant FARM WORKERS and deported them. Check all the local bars and see how many of their American citizen employees are collecting benefits while working under the table tax free. Some do come here for the freebies, but then some American born citizens also are here for the freebies. I don't want to shake up your world to much, but not all people on welfare are minorities.

The problem is the new wave of immigrants aren't just yearning to "breathe" free. They expect to have everything free at the expense of the American taxpayer. Free health care, free food, clothing and shelter, free education, and other benefits Americans work a lifetime to earn and many still do without to pay taxes. It is a rape and pillaging of our country encouraged by the Obama administration and the Democrats as a distraction from total failure in policies both foreign and domestic.
