My brother-in-law was told he was perfectly qualified for a promotion, but that he was "too white" and they needed to fill a quota. Yeah, there's not much you can do to fix that.

Point #5: A previous manager that I worked for would, on the second interview, have all of us team members do a group interview with the candidate. His theory was that it was very important that we all would get along. I think he was correct as having a person who does not fit in with the team does make work difficult.
