Don’t Distort Gun Violence Statistics

April 6, 2014

To The Reader’s Forum: Nothing like fooling the public by lying with statistics! In the article about the rally against the SAFE Act (Post-Journal, April 3, 2014), it is stated that there were only......

Since you are the "expert" Renae', I will ask you: How many deaths by the proliferation of BOOZE, Ciggy-butts, and ABORTION? (all licensed and approved by the lovely government)indirectly booze alone kills/maims thousands of innocent by-standers. And the Gov. in its wisdom licenses this trash / garbage in hopes of getting a dollar of taxes to waste on three martini lunches. They fail to realize it costs tax payers $9 (to "clean up" the refuge) for each $1 collected. The killing babies industry costs billions to butcher babies of inconvenience. all on the taxpayers shoulders. Of course we all know Gov. is flat out stupid , selfish, overbearing, etc.

It is absolutely the responsibility of the parent.

The problem is that many parents are either stupid or they want to bury their head in the sand.

Guns will always be with us. Even if you don’t like guns, you still should know something about them as far as safety is concerned. Refusing to talk about it doesn’t make it go away.

Gun safety videos and training are always a good thing.

That way, if someone does come across a gun, they would know how to handle it in a safe manner.

One disturbing thing is that if you hand a gun to someone who is unfamiliar with guns, (it doesn’t matter if that person is 10 years old or 70 years old), the first thing they will always do is point the gun at you. That is why you ALWAYS unload the gun first before showing it to anyone!

The rifle murder statistics are not misleading because the most most onerous provisions of the SAFE Act focus on rifles! The new definition of "assualt rifle," the rifle registration requirements, and the prohibition against any purchase or gift of such a rifle, are the most objectionable parts of the SAFE-Act.

Are you people so naïve as to think a person who is bend on murdering someone is going to be concerned about the number of bullets in a magazine, total capacity of a magazine, or some silly sign on the door that says firearms are not allow inside? What are you going to do – add a few more months on to his sentence or issue a ticket after he is dead?

The unSAFE Act is just a way to get around that pesky 2nd Amendment. You can have your guns, but just not this one. And then later on, not that one. It will keep going until the only gun you are allowed to have would be useless!

The unSAFE Act singles out rifles that look like military rifles. Apparently, uneducated people such as Cuomo think that a pistol grip or threads on the end of that barrel make a particular rifle more powerful, more lethal than any other kind of rifle. So, in a way, yes it is like singling out a Lamborghini. That is how stupid the unSAFE Act is!

Suicides were not included as they are not murder! Also, the type of gun used in suicides would not make a difference in whether or not the suicide was carried out.
