New BPU System Has Flaws

March 5, 2014

To the Readers Forum: I don’t understand why the Jamestown BPU is now thinking of revamping their recycling system, and if you ask me, it won’t make too much of a dent in recycling rates: people......

I'm pleased with the BPU's recycling program. Could it be better? Certainly. But it's a wonderful program to have. I lived in rural PA for 4 years and it was horrible. People scoffed at recycling; curbside service wasn't offered; the recycling center was dirty and difficult to get to. I think we've got it pretty good in Jamestown and I, for one, am happy with my low-cost recycling service.

seems out that you'd be listed as commercial when you're clearly residential. what, if any, are your options to remedy that?

there it is, verbatim, right from the pamphlet that accompanied the new recycling bin. but i'm sure you geniuses will have a stupid, senseless retort as to distract us from your lack of reading comprehension or complete ignorance of the pamphlet itself.

i'll even allow some of you momos to say "oh mine didn't come with a pamphlet" (yeah horsesh*t it didn't).

so why would you not cruise on over to the bpu website where the same exact information contained in the pamphlet it also listed on the website.

gimme your respective addresses i'll be over to hold your hands & walk you through the mind boggling, atom splitting process that is the new bpu recycling program.

q: "how will the matter be resolved with a landlord who must pay a higher sanitation bill due to the unwillingness of his tenant(s) to meet our definition of recycling?"

a: "for residential accounts where the landlord is paying for services, landlords will be responsible for their tenants' recycling. each apartment will receive their own recycling bin to use. the landlord will be able to contact the bpu to determine which tenants are recycling and which are not."

(j'townite you may wanna have an adult present for interpretation)

Why would you need to explain why this needs to happen? Are you all in kiddiegarden? The guy brings up some very real questions, yet, you mock him? I really do hope the paper does expose the frauds of this forum.

I'm still inclined to throw every thing away, I don't want clutter of unnecessary totes or recyclable refuse on my porch

Formerlyphil, it doesn't cover questions like that. Maybe it's YOU who needs to read it more thoroughly.

also, the bpu recycling schedule is available just a few clicks away on the internet. why would you waste your time talking to a momo unless it was absolutely necessary?

"I still have questions as in, if my friend Jim lives in a 10-unit apartment complex and his landlord pays his utilities for him, will all 10 get separate bins as well and a bill?"

mr. casnov every new bin distributed by the city came with a 4 page pamphlet attached that specifically addresses your concern in the q&a section. try reading the accompanying literature next time.

Brother lives in PA, where recycling is the law as well, pays $8.35 per month. And they are allowed to comingle(mix) their recyclables. And it isn't handled by Cassella.

If you are not happy with paying $10 or $20 per month for your trash pickup, you could move outside of Jamestown and pay Casella to pick up your trash. I am charged $30 a month for my trash pickup & I recycle everything I can. I would love to pay $10 a month! Plus recycling is the law! Maybe thy should just start enforcing it! Instead of an incentive to recycle, they could've fined those who don't.

They could make the time, just they refuse to do it. I don't know why anyone would have to haul their trash off to the station, unless you're a country folk.

I used to think that having to haul my trash to the transfer station was a pain, but I have since changed my mind. I recycle about 1/3 of my refuse and generally cuts costs way, way down. Too bad not everyone has the time to do that.
