No, I'm actually posting from beautiful Southern California.

I'd just prefer when I return home to Lakewood to visit my family that the police are only able to tail my vehicle needlessly, rather than use unnecessary and expensive K-9's to create false-positive "hits" and illegally search without a warrant. That's already happened in Jamestown and I'd rather not repeat the process in my quaint little hometown village.

I just love to read the comments on this site. The majority of them are always in negative fashion by the same people, no matter what the topic is. It sounds like some of these negative comments are brought on by some of these subjects being arrested by those "Studs" who work at Lakewood Police Dept. K-9 is a wonderful asset to Lakewood.

Let's hope this K-9 was specially trained to sniff out shoplifters at the Wal-mart. If not, it doesn't seem like there's much violent crime in Lakewood to be stopped.

Just laughable that a large majority of people here have no problem paying for a cute puppy, but are completely up-in-arms if their tax dollars go towards assisting poor [human] families and their children escape poverty.

I am happy for the Village. I'm sure the dog will be used more than people think. Some people are so negative in regards to the police Deptartments. unless they need them. We need more oficers on the steet.I have been on many ride along in years past, and most people do not realize what goes on after they go to bed at night.

With a population of 3,002/2010 census I can see where they really need the added protection. It's a real epicenter of terrorism and potential domestic threats. Now if they told me it was already trained to track lost humans or cadavers and we didn't have to support an SUV and it's maintenance, I don't know, it just seems like a bit of overkill. Although the majority of our property taxes are derived from approx a half mile perimeter of Chautauqua Lake the State is footing most of the bill and the With a population of 3,002/2010 census I can see where they really need the added protection. RealAmerican -- Why do we have to praise the story if we choose to comment? It's fair to point out that the K-9 was likely only brought in because it's "free" for x years. If the grant money ever runs out, there won't be any effort to scale back because it is a nice doggy and Lakewood wouldn't want to appear soft on crime.

Crime in the Jamestown area, even the recent opiate issues, is not a reason why the city is in the state it's in. Jamestown and Chautauqua county are not particularly thriving or enjoyable places for young people to live. Much of this has to do with lack of well paying white-collar jobs and abysmal location relative to major cities, but further equipping our bored police force with new tools for harassment certainly won't help.

Every department should have a dog. It's amazing what they can do. Drago is a mighty busy puppy!

Good choice. An officer we know trains the dogs and they are one of the best tools our police forces can have to deter crime.

Great use of money for Lakewood. As we all know, the village has been overwhelmed with explosives and gun related crimes in recent years.

Oh well, at least it's better than a narcotics dog. Until that K9 gets pushed through Lakewood can call in the West Ellicott police to handle their illegal vehicle searches on 18-25 year old males who dare to drive after 12am.
