The real question here is why don't the students want to play sports any more. These schools use to easily be able to field large teams every year ? I'm pretty sure it's based on parents being involved.

We can't merge more schools but the kids can play together on combined sports teams. The problem is with the adults not the kids!

So let me see if I got this straight. Cassadaga and Falconer will play football together next season.

Clymer and Sherman will also play football together next season. Frewsburg and Falconer are playing Boys basketball together, but there is hurt feelings.

Frewsburg swims with Southwestern. Maple Grove plays Hockey with Southwestern.

Westfield, Ripley, Chautauqua Lake and Panama all Wrestle together and just finished undefeated 7-0 in Division 2 and will be sending 13 kids to sectionals this weekend.

Ripley now sends its students to Chautauqua Lake. Chautauqua Lake and Maple Grove played Football together this season and will do so again next season. Dunkirk and Silver Creek Wrestle together.

Westfield voted down a school merger with Brocton, but it was OK to have a combined football team with them.

I'm with you on that one. That's taking things a bit too far. But there is clearly favoritism. I have seen many times the child of a teacher play ahead of somebody who was twice as good. Anybody who thinks that never happens in a small town would probably buy ocean front property in Arizona without seeing it first.

"If the parents of a player aren't related to school officials or money they don't play."

if you have to make that kind of a statement you may want to steer little johnny or susie into something more constructive like academics, the chess team, or the debate team.

I think people are fed up with all the politics and favoritism. I see it in almost every sport. If you don't work hard, you shouldn't play. But if you do work hard, you shouldn't be pushed aside because the coach is friends with another players parents. Schools don't have the guts to touch this with a 10ft pole. It's much easier to just find somebody to merge with.

More than likely this will not save the tax payers money. Speaking from experience with the current falconer-frewsburg bball merger, it is actually costing the districts more money. Bussing players to and from practices at the opposite school and to the home games that are at the opposite school (home games are played equally at each of the merged schools).

The kids aren't showing up to play because of the favoritism with teachers or who is who play all others stay on bench. This is the truth of the destruction of area football programs. If the parents of a player aren't related to school officials or money they don't play. Yet they preach family and no I in team. A team means everyone plays. You sew what you reap.

Very interesting way for both these athletic directors to get rid of their who will coach? The y wanted the coaches gone now they can say we have to interview all over for the new combined team. Best this will save taxpayers money....good luck Mark Peterson with the new team got yourself the let's see what you do...
