Comments/reports such as "build a new building" are interesting and should be analyzed by both a financial pro and psychiatrist; the report from both would be a fabulous read. While the option needs to be considered I think it can be easily ruled out as simply a distraction to the core subject matter.

The "Issue" is not the Caprino building. The issue is how our government could plan better, be more efficient, look out for our community so we can all benefit in the future. Could a plan to put two $300,000 buildings to work on the main street be better than what we have now? That's $600,000 in tax assessment equaling $10,530.00 income for Town/Village each year. The retail sales are also taxed and will add to that revenue. The increased foot traffic would help our local business owners be successful. As it is, local business owners are having a hard time keeping paint on the shutters and keeping their doors open due to the lack of people interested in shopping or eating there. Can our Government put their efforts toward our community succeeding in the future (In The Most Effective Way Possible)?

How about reducing the number of people to just one combined entity and one board and one set of supporting clerks for a combined Village/Town government. If we can have a Lakewood Busti Police Department, why can't we have a Lakewood Busti Government? Then there would be no need for expansion. This political turf war is getting boring and is unnecessary.

There is another vacant building on Chautauqua Avenue in Lakewood, the old Wilson Farm Store so why can't the merchant move his shop there.

Has anyone even thought about the Court that is not handicap accessible and is in the Caprino Building? The logical answer to that is to move the Court into the Town office building sooner or later you're going to have to either move it or put thousands into bringing it into handicap accessibility.

I think the Town of Busti can put their offices anywhere they want. I really don't understand all the ado about it.

Three thoughts:

*The editorial assumes that it would be more efficient to have Lakewood and Busti offices in one building. That may be true, but it isn't necessarily true.

*The editorial assumes efficiency is the only goal. That's not true.

*It's a shame that the Post-Journal can't disagree with people without calling names, i.e., by calling their views an "ugly head." Come on, Post-Journal. You can do better than that.
