Scams Feed On Sentimental Feelings

January 5, 2014

To The Reader’s Forum: Many years ago, I held a deed for a square inch of land in the Yukon, the Canadian territory where Sergeant Preston and his dog King experienced their radio adventures......

loneriddr1: You are indeed alone. Why can't you come out from behind your screen name. That's all I'm asking. I use my name: you hide. You're a coward for wanting to dominate discussion on this site but can't or won't admit who you really are. That's unAmerican: we need to stand for what we believe, and its time for you to stand and deliver: your name and why we should accept your opinions. Simple: In any American democratic forum, stand and be recognized for your views, but don't hide. Are you in any way qualified to offer comments that we should take seriously, or is this just hobby for you? To rant and rave against others with no positive direction? I can't imagine why this is allowed on this site. Most reputable sites have criteria: among them, that the commentator identify him or herself and own up to the commentary offered. What are you afraid of? Does your exhibitionism threaten your otherwise mundane lifestyle if you admit to who you are?

Just consider the level of rationality of most of the comments in this string. Then you'll have some idea why America is going down the tubes: if this is what middle American thigs and responds positively to, then God help us. Why does this newspaper give a platform to this kind of crank thinking? Is this representative, or even interesting, to most readers? Why offer a platform for such exhibitionism? Again, make contributors post in their own names, with addresses that can be verified. Else wise we may be reading comments from people who have access to the Internet but otherwise have been sidelined by society--for reasons of social maladaptive behavior or mental health. This level of commentary should be between them and their therapist.

How stupid: a rational appear to rational thinking ends up the fodder for malcontents who have taken over this space in pursuit of their defective musings.

The author is to be commended, and this Newspaper to be criticized for allowing such tripe to be offered to the public, as though either contributing to the public' need to know, or to the commonweal. This is not what a community newspaper needs to promote!

>>>"Do you mean like the Tea Party" - Oelwyn asks? Always a stupid comment of non-relevance. Trouble-maker.

It pays to read the fine print, as Mr Carlson noted in his letter. I agree. His suggestions about how to better spend that money make sense to me too. Yet, here in the comments we see the other side with his pointless, negative and inaccurate depiction of progressive political thinkers. When dispensing good advice, why do you feel the need to continue your divisive rhetoric, troglodyte? You hurt your own cause more than anyone who might disagree with you.

Yep, as predicted. People have problem accepting truth as offered so they must retaliate any means possible, including hitting the disagree button.

Childish non sequitur. If your thinking is at this level, don't even bother to look up what that means.

Trog, you hate and call liberals names so you must believe they are telling the truth. That was just to easy.

Your best friend is the one who tells you the truth. Would to God it were true. Tell the truth and people hate you and call you names. Tell them lies and they make you rich and elect you President.

When you go to watch a movie, do you expect reality? Star Wars, Star Trek, King Kong, Transformers, Bambi, these are fantasies, not meant to be taken seriously. They're designed for entertainment purposes. I don't really expect to receive a whopping inch of land..Not worthy of anything.

Both personal compassion and public well being demand we judge the acts of others. I think it best we be guided by truth, long experience, and tradition rather than the conceits and corruptions of liberals and activists. I do have this thing about truth. Actually Barnum did die, but humbug lives forever. When you send that huckster the money, send him a little extra with a note explaining how much you dislike me. It will make you feel good.

How people choose to spend money they have earned should be no concern of yours. Man, you are a controlling person.

I stopped caring when the writer stated that golf courses were trivial and frivolous. Then I looked down and saw that it was the writer that was actually the trivial aspect of this letter.

No. There is no copyright to the name or connection of any name to any coordinates. A book of lists of these meaningless names is put in the Library of Congress which asked its name be removed from the advertising because it was so misleading. People pay good money for lies and hate those who tell them the truth.

Crap, I wish this letter came before I did my Christmas shopping.

Actually, what you're paying for with this service is a copyright of the name to the star's coordinates... so there is something, not much, but something. Some may appreciate it more than the author.
