CrooksandLiars: Go get a few estimates. From foundation to roof I highly doubt 175K will get you too far. Go ahead and disagree with this if you must, but these white elepant projects are always like this. Money pits.

I think I know how this will go..... Enough people will wail about this so that the Legislators get cold feet and postpone the demolition. Then several special studies will be commissioned to review the costs of fixing the building, future uses and all that. When the bill for fixing the building dwarfs the demolition costs, further work will begin to beg for grant money to do the work. Maybe, after 10-15 years, will you see anything done with this place. In the end all you will have is giant monument in the form of a building that is unsuitable for any real purpose other than to gawk at it. Tear it down and create a monument with features from the old building. The soldiers will still be remembered.
