Shutting down the government and wrecking our economy and the world's economy sounds like a rather poor plan to handle deficit spending and to pay back the debt. How exactly is this great plan supposed to work? Perhaps some of you who think it was a good idea can come up with the numbers?

seadog and fedup continues to spew forth the nonsense that comes out of the Corporate news Giant FOX jazeera. Every country in the world said the same thing "if America defaults it will cause a disaster" but because Hannity says "no way" we shouldn't worry.

I have to laugh at the continuing pathetic attempts to blame the President and the Democratic party for the thankfully past government shutdown and debt default threat. It's like the blackmailer who blames their victims, "If you would have paid me/done what I wanted then I wouldn't have been forced to harm you!" Ridiculous!

The additional claim that the government has enough income to service the debt and therefore would not have defaulted ignores reality some more. That money has to come from somewhere, people! Do you think they government has 25 billion just lying around every month? The Republicans think that crushing SNAP, education, national park administration, veteran's benefits, safe food and water and the like in order to service the debt would be a good thing! I cannot agree.

Besides that, there's the precedent that would be set by the default which would harm our country in even more pernicious and wide ranging ways. Mt Reed's vote was dead wrong.

50s4ever, your 11:23 comment speaks volumes about you. You want me to give you a simplistic answer, up or down. I like some white people and not others. I like some black people and not others. I don't paint everyone in a group with one brush. Some Muslims are good people and some are not. Some people on welfare are deadbeats and some are not. You see everyone in a group as exactly the same because your thinking is not sophisticated enough to discern that these groups are not homogenous. Add to that your delight in pushing the envelope in making racially insensitive comments, you should not be surprised to be perceived as a racist.

Your man in the White House was going to give America the respect it once had before the torture question and two wars. Now most of the world including our allies want us handled by the UN for spying on them. Things are going to get worse. Bush didn't need this guy apologizing for him.

I'm not sure why the t-baggers hate America, and why they don't like the constitution. That is bothersome, but despite their whining, America is making a comeback after the tragedy of gwbush.

Signing up for Obamacare is easy. Do you idiots know that you don't have to do it over the internet? You can do it the old fashion way. The website is having problems, but that doesn't make ACA a bad thing.

Monkeyboy, are my comments any different than the ones you make, CONSTANTLY,by calling people who disagree with Barry racists? Talk about "the pot calling the kettle black". I hope you don't take that saying as being racist.

Fedup - quit wasting your breath. If Barry says something, those like emelye, pirate, and the rest of the dimwits will follow him and believe him no matter how many facts you give them.

And emelye - Rep. Reed did not shut down the government. Your president and Harry Reid did that. And, the government shut down - so what?? Did you suffer any ill effects from it? Was your SNAP late?

pystew, emelye, donkeyboy and all the rest of the ignorant people - listen up. Our debt service which maintains the full faith and credit of the US is approx. $25 Billion @ month. The government has tax revenues well in excess of $200 Billion @ month. Default will only happen if the President makes an intentional and totally unnecessary decision to not pay the interest on our Treasury notes. The monthly tax revenue also is large enough to pay every Social Security check and pay all of our military on schedule. So when you hear President Barack Obama says or implies, as he did on several occasions, that seniors won't get their checks and the military won't get paid, he's lying or being misleading.

No Seadog, I disagree that the "people" who voted for Mr Reed wanted to have the government shut down and debt default threatened. Some radical extremists might have thought it was a good idea but those kinds of people are just closet anarchists, in my opinion. I don;t think the majority of our district, no matter how gerrymandered, thought it was a good idea to vote against a bill that averted what most economists predicted would be an economic disaster.

And, again, Seadog, stop being so nosey.

Yes emely, because he voted the way those that voted him into office wanted him to, he was wrong. Or, in other words, he voted wrong because he didn't follow the sleeple known as Democrats.

How's that Obamacare working for ya? Been able to sing up yet or are you waiting for the "glitches" to be worked out?

The spin that the PJ is putting on Mr Reed's egregious vote to continue the shutdown and send the US into debt default - harming millions of families, and not just those in the USofA - is almost hilarious in its transparency. Face it, Mr Reed, your vote has tainted you forever as a political hack in the service of the Tea Party and its main funders, the corporate plutocracy. That vote might as well have painted a great big T on your forehead. Your true colors have been exposed and your friends at the Post Journal are unable to re-pull that wool over everyone's eyes.

If the Republican/TEA party were truly interested in doing the people's work, this stupid shutdown and threatened debt default would never have happened. Instead of caring about the people they are supposed to serve - us, their constituency - they keep choosing party politics in the service of the 1%, consequences (apparently) be****ned.

Reed voted against a plan that would stop the shutdown of the government. When he did that he voted to keep the national parks and monuments closed, to stop funding cancer treatments, pay for our military and veterans, and more harm to us. With that vote he also said that we should not pay our bills.Someone used the FOX talking points that we have enough money coming in--I don't know what twilight zone he is from. If his vote passed I would not get my EARNED social secuirty tomorrow. In my mind he has earned the name Tea Party Tom. I really thought he would vote for the bill. I guess the fear of having a primary, and the $$$$ he would receive from the donors cought his eyes. He can not erase his vote. He owns it. We know it. We are going to make sure people remember it. He is not the moderate he wants us to think he is. Talk is cheap, check his votes. They really shows what kind of person he is. November '14 can't come fast enough. Can't wait for his Town Hall Meetings.
