I'm very concerned about the huge cut to our library. Why is it so large and will the library be able to function as well without it? Is there another funding stream that's available to the library that justifies the size of the cut?

Our library is one of the joys of our city. I certainly hope this extensive cut is so high because they don;t need the money and not because the mayor thinks it's a safe place to cut because people don;t care about it.

Take a look at the salaries this city of 30k population pays their employees and you want to scream. You have cops and firefighter making up to 90K. General workers making up to 70 k, and City hall administration workers up to 80 k. This doesn't include their benefits and retirement package. That's why j- town taxes are $22.00 per thousand.

Move to lakewood or surrounding area

All the high rises in the city are brimming with chain-smoking 500-pound invalids who don't pay a dime in property taxes. These buildings and their neighboring buildings all over downtown are owned by non-profits (including a $10 million ice arena), and they don't pay a dime in property taxes.

What is wrong with this picture?

CHSmith, you asked him a question, he answered it may not like response, but ayt least he one wants to hear why the taxes are so high. Truthfully, they are way to high, but I understand the cause of that. I don't like it, but we all have choices to make, especially where we live.

Wow...How awesome that are taxes didn't go up as much as they could have. Thanks Sam, you're the best. Sam came to my door one evening and I made the mistake of telling him that I thought our taxes were to high. He offered 100 excuses why without offering even one why not. Go figure.

No wonder people steal. don't have to pay taxes on stolen items. And As for the house. Well, I will keep it as long as I can come up with the money for the taxes and repairs. Thank you democrats for our wonderful gov't and country. And our freedoms are being slowly eroded.

KEEP voting the same tax man in time after time, after it hurts enough you may choose a new direction and someone that is against taxes. Term limits now!
