"Just not as bad as they were?" Really? This is like a snowball rolling down the side of a mountain.

FWIW,

Almost all of the increase in Federal tax collection is due to the improvements in the general economy. Things are still bad, just not as bad as they were.

The rest is due to inflation and growth of the adult population.

Why is this so difficult?

Emelye, due to the Congress waiting to the very last minute to change the tax rates at the end of last year, many people and businesses made decisions to take advantage of the former tax rates as opposed to the higher future tax rates and accelerated their capital gains. This spike is only temporary and comes at the expense of future tax revenue. We saw this same thing with Obama's "Cash for Clunkers" which caused a spike in sales of new vehicles that later caused a steep drop-off in sales that completely offset the spike.

"A February Bloomberg News Survey found 62 percent of respondents thought the federal deficit continues to grow; 28 percent thought it’s holding about the same; and 6 percent thought it has fallen. The 6 percent were correct."

George W. Bush fights WAR ON BUDGET. NO President in modern history does this. Pay our Bills, stop the Bobby did that and Jimmy did that routine here and in Washington. You all sound infantile. Our nations credit rating is at risk, the stock market and people lively hoods. Poor poor conservative unable to get there way have used un-American tactics to destroy President Obama but instead are very busy damaging America and American Citizens (you know TAXPAYERS).

OK copoopergoat, In case you still don't believe the FACTS:

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) "In 2009, Congress and President Obama increased the federal cigarette tax by 62 cents, along with increases in other tobacco taxes. The increases were part of legislation expanding coverage under the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The federal cigarette tax increased to $1.01 per pack on April 1, 2009"

"What exactly is the "lie" Obama supposedly told? Makes a nice headline"

Please see my post of 9:16 a,m. where I said: "I will cut the deficit in half my first term" - lie, - Spending is down - that's a lie, Revenues are up which makes the deficit go down.

So, I posted TWO lies he has told about the deficit, and added a few more. I can give you more if you like. Now prove me wrong!

Do conservatives have ADD, or do they keep switching the subject because they know don't have a leg to stand on so they flair around on some unrelated subject until they're called out on that, too. Case in point: Seadog. I asked what lie the President has told about deficit reduction, and he's citing New York State sales tax increases on cigarettes. It's like talking to a three year old mid-temper tantrum.

This editorial is laughable when you consider the rank obstructionism against Mr Obama's attempts to get the economy, and the resultant revenue levels, going again. Obstructionism that was aimed at preventing his 2nd term election. Now that that has failed, the extreme right wing has found a lever by which to promote their kind of anarchy with political hostage taking, because they still haven't been able to shove their morally corrupt libertarian philosophies onto the American People.

It was once said that the truth is the first casualty of war and what we are now seeing in Washington is definitely a war. A war against a compassionate government that operates for all of its constituents and not just the wealthy elite. The Republican party is waging this war against US. Remember that in 2014.

#4 Cigarette taxes jumped from $3.90 to more than $10 per carton. Cigar smokers, meanwhile, saw their taxes increased by over 4,000%. Not only was this a major tax increase, but it mostly harms those making less than $250,000 and living at or below the poverty level. #5 Obamacare Surtax on Investment Income (Tax hike of $123 billion/takes effect Jan. 2013): Creation of a new, 3.8 percent surtax on investment income #6 Obamacare Hike in Medicare Payroll Tax (Tax hike of $86.8 bil/takes effect Jan. 2013):

So Howie, I guess he has raised taxes on couples making $250k or less.

#1 Since Jan. 1, 2011, employees with health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts or health reimbursement accounts have no longer been able to use pre-tax funds stashed in these accounts to buy over-the-counter medicines for allergy relief and the like without a doctor’s prescription (there’s an exception for insulin).

#2 The Medical Itemized Deduction Hurdle. Starting Jan. 1, 2013, taxpayers who face high medical expenses will only be allowed a deduction for expenses to the extent they exceed 10% of adjusted gross income, up from 7.5% now. The Health Savings Account Withdrawal Penalty. Since Jan. 1, 2011, taxpayers who withdraw money from health savings accounts for non-medical expenses before age 65 face a 20% penalty, up from 10% before. #3 The Indoor Tanning Services Tax. Seadog, you also fail to mention that the huge 2.7 trillion dollar possible budget only exceeds Bush's 2.6 trillion dollars in 2007. So, 1/10th of a trillion dollars more in 7 years, not that bad, now is it?

Seadog professes supernatural powers and claims he can see into the future. Must be nice. Seeing as how you are always demanding facts - how about one fact concerning Obama lying about not raising taxes for those people earning under $250,000. If you earn less than 250 please tell me personally what more in taxes you are paying. Just for starters I can tell you that you have not paid for Obamacare and putting the FICA relief taxes back to where they were certainly does not constitute an increase. The proposed budget is at republican sequester levels which hasn't happened anyway. So tell me please about these tax increases Obama has caused you.
