You know, anybody can access the materials from: engageny dot com. They have all the lesson plans, student handouts, exit tickets, assessments. If you can find one sentence of indoctrination, go to it. It isn't there. You are just yelling at the clouds, old person.

Not one word of substance in the entire piece, just angry, empty rhetoric. For someone who's devoted their life to education, it appears Ms. Nelson could use lessons in critical thinking herself. I'm not defending the Common Core, but I certainly wouldn't attack it based on anything in this letter.

Ms. Nelson,

I was brought up to think independently, intelligently, and add common sense and you have written the absolute truth. Our children need more advocates like you otherwise we are just Lemmings rushing to fall off the cliff.

"Schools should be sensitive to local standards but federal standards also guarantee an equal education for students in all parts of the country". You are right Monkey, I agree but they don't! And look at all the money that is spent. Something has to change. You can't just keep throwing money at the problem.

A commentary with a lot of accusations and wild rhetoric with nothing factual, logical or reasonably compelling to base those assertions on is hardly credible. Indoctrination is a loaded word. Why use it in what should be an honest debate? Haven't we been "indoctrinating" kids from the very beginnings of public education in this country? Ms Nelson seems to think that we should blindly accept her assertions. Sorry, I won't even attempt that.

Please, show us real examples of the harm you are predicting. Give us credible evidence for examples of Common Core programs that won't work. Asking people to accept your criticisms as a matter of faith goes too far for this reader.

Excellent commentary! Only those who are not dependent upon government will care. That number is dwindling. That is the plan.
