I don't see where 50s is playing the race card. If Trayvon was a white boy, would our president still refer to him as "If I had a son he'd be like him?" I know it's a hypothetical question, but in all sincerity, would he? So with that in mind, who REALLY started playing the race card in this murder trial? And furthermore, what business did the president have making a public comment on this anyway? Remember the outcry when Nixon made a public comment on the Manson murders?

Monkeyboy, are you talking about his statement "the pot calling the kettle black?" Is that the racial statement you are referring to? If you are, that's a wild shot in the dark. P.S: Don't accuse me of bringing gun rights into the conversation.

I didn't see any indication of a racial or prejudicial statement. Color does not matter, at least not to me. What is nauseating is the accusations directed toward conservatives of racism because they are anti-Obama. Nonsense. All of it.

BTW...was anything said about Zimmerman's race? If I recall correctly..."he was a white Hispanic..." ...unquote

madman said,"I hear no mentionof blame on parents now a days. There are a small percentage of bad teachers, but a larger percentage of bad parents. Teachers now a days not only have to teach, but also be the parents, the disciplinarians, the guidance counselor, etc. Their job should be to teach. These kids are so screwed uo when they get to school, the job of teaching is almost impossible. Blame the parents for not parenting. And by the way, I am totally against tenure. And instigator, how would you like to take a 25% paycut? Do you have 4 YR DEGREE WITH A MASTERS?..." I agree with you 100%. I have several relatives and friends that are GREAT teachers and have been forced by society to raise the children now a days rather than do what they have been trained to do...teach. Parents, I think it's about time you start acting like your title and raise your own children!

That's the pot calling the kettle black. If you don't know anything (obviously)about Chicago schools, you're an idiot for saying I'm lying about them. I have a son. He doesn't look like Trayvon. How's that bite you.

Emelye, it's more about assuming responsibility and control over important issues not killing them. I like Bryan and his merry band of patriots. Sorry you do not, but that's why you are Emelye and I'm Carla. It makes life more interesting. :)

Bryan Thomas' blog, "The Bad of Patriots," which was established to (among other things), "combat the parasitic spread of liberalism," is hardly an unbiased and credible source of facts, carlaw. While there are definitely problems with our educational system today I cannot imagine how eliminating the Dept of Education and its funding of schools on a national basis would help. Why is it that so many right wing ideas are about killing programs and systems they don't like instead of reasonably attempting to fix them?

I have to disagree. Read this post: "Of all the departments of our federal government, the most pointless and unconstitutional is the Department of Education. Since it was created back in 1976, test scores have shown no substantial improvements compared to all the money we are spending. If we are looking for ways to cut back our debt, one of the first places we should look is the Department of Education. The Department of Education's budget has increased over 300% from when it was first established. Are test scores higher? No! Even if we go back to when the Department of Education was started in 1979, we still don't see any significant increase in test scores in the US, let alone compared to the rest of the world. It's sad that so much taxpayer dollars is going into a system that really isn't making our children more educated to compete in a world market." B. Thockey

The Amish won't be teaching this TRASH to their children. Common core says K-5th (yes, K) must be proficient in identifying ALL the male & FEmale parts, the sezual trans diseases, symptoms & cures or treatments, how you get them, all the alt. lifestyle info savy jargon. It is a piece of trash. nothong more. A money & power GRAB. OH Bumme Rushie 10:28 pm says: "Are the Amish exempt?"(from obamauncare) OH, I WISH IT WERE JUST THE AMISH. (Remember when BHO was against the America? now he exempts them.)? President Obama’s health law and the “individual mandate” requiring residents to have health insurance, more than 160,000 others who use health-sharing ministries will be exempt. They’re one of nine exemptions built into the health care law, covering everyone from ILLEGAL immigrants to PRISONERS; those who have religious conscience objections. HEY nobody wants his (BHO) crappy, miserable ideas. Obama doesn't even want it. he hasn't read it

The NYS Learning Modules are scripted curriculum that makes it seem like the government thinks robots can teach our children. Instead of arguing about unions and teacher salaries, we need to band together to get some changes made quickly. The teachers are not to blame for this mess, and most of them feel helpless at this moment. They have a new curriculum they don't know how to teach, and their jobs are being held over their heads. Please have a conversation with a teacher. Let him/her show you how difficult the transition has been. Nothing changes with regard to this, by voicing your opinion on here. If you want to be heard, contact your school officials, and local, state, and national political leaders. If enough people get together, the government will have to start listening. By the way, the Southwestern District is listening to us and has scheduled a meeting for parents. If you are a Southwestern PreK-12 parent, check your child's folder next week for the details. All I really know, is that since my kids (who are honor, straight A students) started taking this Common Core Math, there has been nothing but tears of frustration and a complete lack of understanding as to what to do. There is no book, no papers coming, as a parent, am I to help them with homework?? Its rediculous!

I disagree with keeping local control. You need some oversight. Can you imagine what some of these small narrow minded towns across the country will be teaching their kids. Districts with 80-90% poverty rate. Who in that community will run that school? I don't agree with common core, but I don't think the answer is full local control.
