Government is run by people who happen to have the most friends on Election Day. This does not mean they are trained to make appropriate decisions. I vote for character integrity and hope they do the right thing. The higher level of government you go, the more dysfunctional and corrupt, I say keep it small and local. Lead, follow or get out of the way. There are way too many uncontested elections because most would rather sit on their ass and complain rather than actually do something about it.

And things at the State and Federal level are better? We're talking about people that have mastered the illusion of spending money they don't have.

In medical terms, amputation might well remove a diseased body part but it's all too often debilitating in the end anyway. Cutting government is not always the answer to systemic problems. The suggestion by this editorial that government should be downsized by excising the broken parts would indeed reduce the errors but it would also reduce the effectiveness of what we expect the government to do for us. We need to be careful of the constant calls to downsize government, reduce regulation and cut taxes to "starve the beast." You get to a point where the "beast" becomes so enervated that it cannot fulfill its required function.

Lets see now , one third/40 plus thousand of county working in public sector, third highest taxed county in America, could there be room to down size? You bet with Detroit type attitude it won't be long this county/ state will be bankrupt and nobody left to pay/tax for government jobs. What a shame to destroy an area through public welfare , freeloaders and public sector union jobs. R.S.P. Chautauqua county.

Get rid of the top layers. A board of supervisors did a great job for the county. I wish we could go back to it. What we can do is elect intelligent and literate people who want better government.

Send them all to 'TRUMP' University where the only 'solution' winds up being a "suspension".How about that US CONGRESS? Would you have your accountant change the timing belt on your car before ,or after, he has painted the wheelbarrow?
