Well that's exactly why I stated that the SAFE Act will have no significant impact on the issue of gun related crime Larry1. On the other hand it will actually result in MORE criminal arrests as well intentioned and otherwise upstanding citizens get arrested for ignorantly violating the more ridiculous aspects of the law. For example, how many grandfathers, who've never gotten so much as a parking ticket in their entire lives, are going to be hauled into court for having loaded up the 15 round detachable magazine of their 22 rifles while shooting up old soup cans with their grandsons? That's the type of thing that's going to happen. How much safer will society be when the grandpas are dragged before the bench for such "vile transgressions" against humanity?!

Do you naive people who support the unSAFE Act honestly think that a person who is willing to commit murder is going to count the number of bullets in his magazine or not use a high capacity magazine because it is now illegal??? What are the courts going to do? Add a couple of years onto a life sentence? Do you really believe that a pistol grip makes the rifle more lethal?

Sonoma must be in favor of removing the background check restrictions, the registration, and the removal of restrictions on those who have poor mental health or criminal records. Clearly, he/she is.

Can you still own a gun? Yep.

"hasn't reduced crime" - KCW. It's only been enacted for about a year; guess KCW doesn't know how studies work.

Or rather I should say: "The NY SAFE Act will further encumber the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, while having no significant impact upon the criminal misuse of firearms in NYS."

Although it will further encumber upon the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the NY SAFE will have no significant impact upon the criminal misuse of firearms.

The SAFE act doesn't remove the right to own guns. Just restricts the ability to acquire them and removes the ability to acquire a few types.

Really Howard? See: New York State Police Admit Wrongly Confiscating Guns Under New Law" By Steve Walters, 11APR13. "Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs has said that police called him to clarify that they had wrongly enforced a pistol permit suspension on a local gun owner under the NY SAFE Act.".

So Jr, what is it about the SAFE act that bothers you the most? Are you upset that you can't sell your assault weapons to the un-vetted? Are you worried that Syria is going to invade your home and you'll need all the high cap mags you can stuff in a duffle bag? Or maybe you really think you'll need to join arms with the rebel forces and take over Washington. More likely you're just misinformed or you think of your guns as toys to be played with.

sonoma, try reading the entire article you proclaim the SAFE act has impacted. ONLY the attorney in the case says it has anything to do with the SAFE act. This confiscation of guns would have been done with or without the SAFE act! You emulate Bill O'Reilly perfectly! Taking something totally out of context to try and prove a point against the Democrats. This tactic is losing, sonoma, you need something fresh to try and convince people of out-and-out lies.

Don't forget that Cuomo and Obama tried to OUTLAW a whole class of firearms that are responsible for less than 50 deaths a year nationwide. It's all politics.

Howard----Try this for starters: Attorney: SAFE Act Pulls Client's Pistol Permit due to Medication ...

****wgrz****/...SAFE-Act-Pulls-Clients-Pistol-Permit-due-to-Medication

This man was forced to hire an attorney and go to court to get his guns back. He did prevail after spending time and money to correct something that should never have happened. Talk about government bullying.

Who says I actually read them? I see headers that say, "SAFE ACT blah blah" or "THANK YOU FOR blah blah blah" and know enough not to read it Duh. I go on to read the paper, which takes a mere 5 minutes to do any more.

"Really tired of the same old liberal democrats trying to take the guns away from law abiding gun owners...." Really tired of the same old lies, Sonoma. Please name one person that has had their gun taken away because of the SAFE act.

I'm waiting for the shootings to hit those high class folks in their gated communities and high end real estate. Their country clubs, and private security enclaves. Then they can talk about guns.

Really tired of the same old liberal democrats trying to take the guns away from law abiding gun owners while ignoring the real problems. The problem lies in small areas of the big cities due to gangs and drugs. Solve that and 95% of the problem is eliminated. Restricting or eliminating the firearms of rural Americans will do NOTHING to solve inter city violence.
