My great-great-aunt was the first woman doctor in Jamestown back in the early 1900's. She was trained on the east coast and at that time a woman doctor was considered to be not as good as a man. She moved out to the Jamestown "frontier" which desperately needed doctors. She was welcomed with open arms and lived and practiced medicine here until she died. I hope more doctors move here and fall in love with the area just like Aunt Jane did.

I've lived here for 22 years and have had 6 different family doctors. Not that I did't like them and moved on, it was because they left and I ended up going to their replacement. I don't understand why this area doesn't attract more doctors. Compared to other parts of the country, it's extremely cheap to live here, it's a beautiful area, a good place to raise a family. For example, we have ONE dermatologist! I would think that two could still certainly have enough business to live nicely here. I have had to go out of town for certain healthcare issues because there was no one in town that was taking new patients or could see me in a timely manner and going out of town really causes havoc with my medical insurance because of their "out of area" and "non-network provider" status. I can't be the only one with this problem. I wish the HCAT all the luck and they have my support on bringing more physicians to the area. It's a nice place to live and work.
