August 12, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: Not only did Norman Carlson incorrectly paraphrase me in his July 15th Readers’ Forum response to my earlier contribution, he also managed to miss my point....

Nice response...I am interested in seeing the results of the analysis of chemicals found in the fracking waste fluid. Thank you, Dr. Erlandson!

Great letter! Thank you Tom Erlandson. I only wish every legislator was this concerned.

I realize the drilling companies in the past have been thoroughly disdainful of property owners. On the other hand, I have no faith in the knowledge of the environmental cadres and less faith in the motivations of the top level activists coining the phrases, framing the arguments, and organizing the movement. I don’t think they give a fig about the environment or the people. I stand by what I said about Tom’s letter. DDT got an exaggerated bad rap and bogey man status and any attempt to portray public perception of DDT and public perception of high volume hydrofracturing as comparable fine examples of folk wisdom is bad logic and deceptive. Nothing about DDT or its history has any valid applicability to rational decision making about fracking one way or the other. If Tom wants an objective gauge of his constituency’s chemical sophistication, he might want to hang out in some local quack medical outlets and see how many of them buy homeopathic nostrums.

Glad to see Mr. Erlandson respond and respond so well. This is bizarre though, Mr. Erlandson presents himself as rational, thoughtful, scientific, respectful while Norm presents himself as kind of a raging lunatic driven by emotion, politics, and ego... this kind of voice doesn't belong in the conversation.

What emotion? What politics, etc?

With all due respect, I do not believe comparing the investigation into DDT which ultimately brought to light many harmful side effects and the current investigation into fracking waste water is deceptive. The investigation might ultimately prove that the waste water is not harmful but the correlation between the concerns is valid. Also, Mr. Carlson, often times your letters sound like you are the only one with the ability to think critically and that everyone else is a moron. That might not be your intention but that is the way it sounds to me personally. I might not be a chemist but I am not a knee- jerk reactionary either. I applaud Dr. Erlandson for taking the time to investigate our concerns.

I'm trying to keep track of all of Normie's screen names. Makes the head spin, as does his logic.

DDT, hydrofracking, and most other things and actions have beneficial and either harmful effects or risks. That in itself is neither a reason to do or not to do anything. Saying otherwise to achieve a political end is deceptive. I take no public stand on fracking but I know more about it than many people who do. They are politically motivated and politically manipulated.

What possible political motive could there be behind a cautious approach?? This approach is the politically unpopular one Norm. Fracking is the popular political magic bullet to end economic lag and unemployment! I think not.

If Cuomo and the environmentalists' approach is "cautious" then what would obstructionist be? Get real Carla. The left runs the world. Everything is political. The people who support fracing have no power and no relevance to Cuomo.
