To The Reader’s Forum: I just placed a sign in my yard that says Repeal N.Y. S.A.F.E. act. I do not believe this will happen....

Some major parts of the SAFE act are ridiculous and actually harmful but a large portion of it does make sense to me. I don't think a full repeal is in our interests. Major modifications, yes. Repeal? No.

Seeing as how you can still comply with the law by having the same amount of ammo by carrying more magazines/clips, wouldn't it be interesting if we found some SAFE Act pols had a financial interest in a company that made said magazines/clips.

As to the matter of retired LEO's being allowed to carry "heavy", this law requires that they be "recertified" every three years. Who, exactly, is paying for this "recertification" procedure? I hope it's not the taxpayer! What possible interest does the general public have in footing the bill for a firearm recertification course for retired LEO's? If the course is to be paid for on the public dime then ANYONE should likewise be allowed to participate. You're right BudZilla, "it is self evident that all people are created equal;, except that as far as Albany is concerned, some people are created a bit more equal than everyone else.

I so agree, SAFE act should be repealed. It, along with so many other NYS laws, is proof that common sense has long left those in power
