A Genuine Perspective On Immigration

July 28, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: I’d like to comment on recent letters written by Ms. Forbes (6/13), Mr. Beardsley (6/27), and Mr. Marsh (7/7) regarding elimination of the Hispanic navigator....

So enlighten us. Just point out black dominated communities with black leadership with a good record. I don't know of any.

I'm sure Coppergoat would not have taken exception to Mr. Hammond if his prior comments had referred to Barack Obama as half black/half white while stipulating that only Obama's white half was responsible for all of the lies, scandals and racial divisiveness.

OMG. The point is that in a discussion of economic policies, race is not an issue. Those who raise race in a context where it not an issue ARE racist. Hammond has admitted to it, and most of you support him. Shame on all of you. This isn't simple name-calling, this is about a disingenuous letter from someone claiming to have no ill will, but who readily admits raising the President's race for no legitimate reason. If Hammond hadn't tried his "my heart is pure" BS at the end of the letter, I wouldn't have engaged at all. But people should know he is lying. No apologies for that.

Very good letter Rick, if they didn't squeal racism, they would have nothing.

I liked the letter a lot. I don't agree with everything in it, but it was sincere, well thought out, and very well written. I really liked the civil tone in which Mr. Hammond expressed his thoughts, unlike several of the comments. I also think his points should be considered seriously, both because his ideas merit investigation and because he speaks for a lot of people.

I am glad you admitted to your racism, however inadvertently.

Yes Coppergoat, I referred to our President as being "half-black" during the presidential campaign because he was constantly referred to as only black. It was an effort by me to point out the bias in the media as they rallied behind Barrack Obama. I don't see how pointing out the facts is racist.

Linda apparently didn't read my letter. Good luck with the name-calling, it will get you far.

It's sad that I am referred to as a xenophobe and a racist from people who don't even know me. Perhaps if you knew my own racial background and upbringing you'd be a little more qualified. I guess no matter how honest you are in a letter certain people will always find a way to spit at you.

What is "genuine" about the letter writer's "perspective"? There is nothing "legitimate" about Forbes', Beardsley's or Hammond's xenophobia.

"And when I think of the compassion I have for immigrants and the racial harmony I know is in my heart, I become very offended when my discouragement is dismissed as "fearful nativism."

What a liar you are, Hammond. I've seen you refer to our "half-black President" in too many discussions having nothing to do with race to believe the BS you're selling today.

Are you people that stupid? Do you think tribes just disappeared or gave up their homes to other tribes for Christmas? They ran slavery nearly as long as Africa. Which still does.

Zilla how can you stand to live in a country you despise? Which, by the way was settled like most in the world, including American native tribes.

Mr. Hammond's letter is well-written and articulates many good points regarding the debate. I appreciate his insight.
