It has come to the point of criminalizing drinking. Someone can steal a car, and speed though village with a speedometer telling them they are speeding and they get a slap on the wrist. Have a couple beers or glasses of wine, obey traffic and speed signs and you are breaking the law and you face the same violation and persecution this guy dose, but who is the real criminal? Maybe they should throw the book at the speeder, car thief, reckless driver first. Heck they call you a ability impaired driver if you have a couple beers. Turn 85, loose, eyesight, agility, feeling in your feet and not able to turn neck and they give you blue sign to hang on your rear view mirror. So is it really about impairment or just another sin tax exploited by neoprohibitionists pushing state law to further their agenda. Make it black and white. Zero tolerance. A dry county! See where economy goes then. This guy has lots of problems... drinking does not cause them. Like blaming guns, not people who abuse it

Article said "Lakewood". Thanks Carlaw for noticing tongue in cheek. MacKenzie just has a axe to grind. AngieT ....what is worse DWI a traffic violation... or driving through village a 70 MPH druck or not....or grand auto theft? People like you are the reason some minor laws are reaching beyond thier limits, and puting good people behind bars.

"Come on Guys, Askwhy was only being facetious and trying to inject humor into a tragic situation. He didn't really mean it. (I hope.)"

My niece was killed by a drunk driver in December 2012. I'm sorry, but I fail to find humor in a person that is drinking and driving!

I know him too! His father was a retired law enforcement officer. I don't know what happen to him, but he needs some serious help. I hate to say it, but he is probably better off in jail, because it sounds like he can't stay away from alcohol on his own and needs a serious wake-up call before he harms himself or others from his lack of judgment.

Some folks never learn from past and feel entitled to do as they please without thinking about consequences. Then they are a danger to all of us and our loved ones. Happy that he didn't kill someone.

That's right, askway, blame this on the used car lot - btw, that is in the TOWN OF BUSTI - instead of the drunk guy who stole the vehicle. Your comment is absurd.

Look, this is the third incident in a very short time for this guy. We don't know what negative driving "no pun intended" might be going on here? I will pray for him because i happen to know him. Had it been someone i did not know, yep probably i would have a different tone. All i know is he is a good guy and is making bad decisions. We all have. Hopefully he gets the help he needs. Life is not easy. This is why i choose the Lord as my higher power. He is a strong guy and i am positive he will navigate through this.

According to court records, Schnars was scheduled to appear in Ellicott Town Court on Aug. 19 stemming from a previous drunken driving incident. Police on March 12 observed Schnars coming into the village at 72 mph in a 30-mph zone, and was allegedly found to be intoxicated. He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, reckless driving, speeding, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated.- Because he hasn't been to trial yet you dipsh!t.
