Madman, the tax payers do have a right to know exactly why and that is what the MEETING is for. So the tax payer can ask any question they want about the new rate of 378 per year.

Customers can expect a rate of $378 per household unit, per year. What part of this simple statement don't the confused people understand. How much easier to understand could the PJ make it.

The increase will now make the fee $378. There is not a $378 increase. The PJ reported the wrong info.

DanFal and Pirate, great points. Proconserv, I agree infrastructure needs updating and repairing. But this article did not say that. This article made it sound like ok public, you don't want to come to these public meetings, we will approve the increase OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT HOGBOY. At the end of the day, this is money coming out of the pockets of the tax payers, and they have a right to know exactly why. I do not live in the district either, but this sort of thing seems to be happening all over.

I really don't believe that non-attendance by the public is due to complacency. I think it is the "tired of beating their heads against the wall syndrome." I believe that a lot of people have come to the conclusion that our different levels of government do not represent the wishes of the shrinking middle class or the growing lower income class. It seems government represents the wishes of corporations(both domestic and foreign),PACs,lobbyists, the UN and rich people. When not representing those interests, government seems to do what it wants regardless of the wishes of the majority.

The only thing in the economy that is moving is Wall Street. If you ain't part of that then your STILL in recession. As to the meeting, it is sad that nobody showed up but to put this out there in the paper and call the public out and the go ahead with the increase is kind of distasteful in my opinion. More than likely the increase would have gone through anyways. Sure they could cut operating costs. But they won't. Now they want the public to know that " SEE ITS YOUR OWN FAULT" not them. Kinda childish.

Glad i don't own property there. Just keep taking from the working people. Now with the price of gas going up again for who knows why. People won't be spending money again and the economy won't be moving again.

We hear and see more and more of this everyday. From our sewer lines to our School Districts, the sticking to taxpayers is crap and all these boards stinks just do not want to CUT THEIR OPERATIONAL COSTS!

Looks like they had a good turn out at the Gun control meeting at the VFW the same night.

I did not see a notice. Where was it posted & was it in small print?? I have a 2 apt. house which means I pay twice as much & because of all the "low-income housing" just around the corner, I cannot rent at a price that will pay the taxes. Welcome to NY State. The answer is to build more free housing for all the dead beats that live here.. Then you can raise my taxes some more.

Go to meetings and hear the whole story. I am sure many issues have been discussed at previous meetings as to why the rate increase is needed. Infrastructure is failing people, and we (rate payers/users) need to pay for it if you want to keep it.

Not showing up at a public meeting just adds more proof to the pudding. The "I don't care attitude" prevails here. People just don't care anymore. Complacency is the sin. What a shame. Sickens me and I live outside of this district.

One more time!! It is not an increase OF $378.00 a yr. it is an increase TO $378.00 a yr. As usual the PJ just can't get it right.

So now this board wants to punish the citizens for not showing up to a public meeting by increasing their yearly fee by almost $400? Is this what we have come to? And what is this increase going towards? I hope the legislature does the right thing, and decline this increase until this ridiculous board can explain exactly why this increase is needed. And to say because there has not been an increase since 2004 does not cut it. Shameful!

I believe that is not a $378.00 increase but a new total yearly cost. Depending on what people are paying now it ends up being a much less increase.

It might have been nice if the PJ had listed what the actual rate was going to be. Since previously there were multiple rates and now there is going to be one, we really don't know the entire story. As Clara would say, "Where's the beef?"
