Thanks Carlaw. Yes we are not always on the same side but at least we both try and present logical thinking, and for that you have my respect.

Madman, that part of my comment was aimed at jackhammer. My reponse to you is, yes, there IS something to discuss ...like the Exec, Clerk and Sheriff. Don't dismiss his entire statement based on how you feel about the legislators only. Carla, I agree with you, huge pay hikes isn't sustainable. I want to know what part of his comment that a discussion needs ot be had is wrong. Why don't they get yearly COLA liek the rest of the county workforce? It makes more sense to me than to go 20 years without a pay raise and then try to pass huge increases all at once.

Were he signers of he Declaration of Independence, Bill or Rights or original Constitution government employees? Did G.W, or T.J, want to be a career politician? No did not want to create a "political royalty", unfortunately a self serving political royalty is what we now have, who do not subject themselves to the same laws they put on others.

Once you make being a representative a career, the representation of the people for the people and the democracy our founding fathers envisioned and put in place is at peril. Adam Smith said it best...man is greedy by nature and will always look out for themselves first and foremost.

SammyBrown. South County Sewer Board, CLA, Rod and Gun, to name a few. With a little more research I could come up with many more. I was not talking about Clerk or Executive/Supervisor...I was talking about representaives in legislature. The sheriff is a whole nother conflict of interest matter. If he is elected, he should be out of uniform and out of the union, like most sheriffs accross the country.

I agree Madman. You totally "get it". We are not always on the same side, but your logic is often almost flawless and I don't think you have a dog in the race and neither do I. Keep us on the straight and narrow! :)

Kia, as you are so smart a person, enlighten me. Are the county exec, sheriff, and county clerk CURRENTLY working for free? Answer, NO. Are the legislators currently working for free? Answer NO. My response was I am against pay increases for ANY of those positions. So your response is totally off the wall to me.

Interesting - how about our State and Federal representatives. Should they work for free?? Either you are on the pipe or you are collecting your monthly benefits and do not know what is to ACTUALLY work for a living. By the way, I'd be interested in those 20 - 30 hour a week boards also. How many of them do you sit on??

ASkWHy- you are full of it--tell me just one specific board, outside of your church, that one person regularly puts in 20 to 30 hours weekly for no pay. The county exec is running a $600 MILLION corp and you want he to do it for free. Tell the local business owner that and he will laugh you out of his office. All you citizens that want the executive and legislators to work for free step, run and see how it is to be in the light rather than hiding under a bushel throwing barbs at the elected.

Kia, It upsets me too to hear personal attacks and name calling but I don't think people really mean it. Our economies, personal and governmental, are failing and no one has had a good idea on any level for some time now to turn it around. Most of our elected officials work hard and deserve their pay and especially our respect. Some do not, but whichever the case there is no money for raises right now. There is also no money for a lot of other things we are forced to finance. To think that you could be so out of touch as to sit on that committee and propose those raises. AND THEN (one of these commission members even put his hat in the ring for legislator after voting for a $12,000.00 legislator pay) ! This is outrageous, but you are right, it doesn't merit name calling. It does merit not sticking to the party line and voting only for people who "get it".

There are people who serve on numerous board around county with no pay. The put in 20-30 hours a week for no pay. Paying people to represent the public is ridiculous and at least a conflict of interest to tax payers. Now they are just another county employee mouth to fill.

Just so I get this straight madman and jackhammer, the Sheriff, County Exec and County Clerk should work full-time plus and receive no pay? The salaries up for discussion included more than just the legislators. And, all of these people have to spend money to run for office - so they should pay to work for free and have people trash them in the blogs and everywhere else, labeling them ALL "jerks". Yup, makes total sense to me. Thanks for your intelligent well thought out input.

Mr Gould, what is there to discuss? Your comment that it will be hard to find people to run is ridiculous. It is very obvious that your main concern is your pay, and not your civic duty as a legislator to do whats best for the county. Very sad.
