A concession stand is a good idea... except that in NO WAY should a lifeguard be taking care of it. It only takes seconds for someone to get into trouble in the water. If that lifeguard is making change, or waiting for a someone to make a decision on those chips or soda (we know how it is a terribly difficult choice sometimes), or if s/he runs out of change, or if s/he needs more ice for a cooler... A lifeguard should ONLY be concerned with what's going on in/near the water. Hire someone else to take care of snacks.

I always thought the word was "quench" your thirst.

Job it out! The government running a business that is not the government? What's next? The government running an entire amusement park? All of this government takeover, please, tea partiers, what are you doing about this?

If the village decides to proceed with plans for a concession stand, I hope that they will consider some healthy snack choices. Soda, chips and candy are not what many parents encourage their children to eat and drink.

If I remember correctly, Lakewood Beach did sell some concessions years ago when my kids were young. I really think the lifeguards should be responsible for keeping watch over swimmers exclusively . Lakewood can hire others to handle healthy snacks and drinks (no glass bottles please). Oh, Mr. Phillips, the word is "quench". Just say'in! :) lol
