That is exactly my point Heckler. Where is all of the money from Chaut Lake going. They spend 1.2 million on transportation. Bemus spends 500 thousand. It sounds to me like Bemus is doing something right and Chaut Lake is wasting money.

Yes, but doesn't the physical size of the district have something to do with the amount of money that comes in to the school and thus influence the larger budget size? For instance, I'll bet that Chautauqua Institution contributes an enormous amount of tax revenue to the school district. So my point is, if there's a large pool of money available, why wouldn't the school district find ways to use it? So 8 million higher than Bemus would say that something definitely IS wrong, especially if the class sizes are similar. Hmmm....

From what I understand people from Chaut Lake school have been talking to people in the Bemus district. Chaut Lake has 2 less kids than Bemus Point and their budget is 8 Million dollars more. Something is wrong wouldn't you say. Check other schools our size and see how our budget compares to theirs. You will find that Bemus Point has one of the lowest budgets of them all.

So I get my Newsletter in the mail today that reminds me of the Budget Hearing YESTERDAY. Anyway, agreed that some cuts need to be made. Not an ideal situation, but there are some pretty powerful groups at play that eventually force these decisions over time.

Nowhere do I see any cuts to facalty or staff... many (most) local school districs have been forced to make serious cuts here over the past few years... NOT MG.... while we all hate to see teachers lose their jobs, there comes a time when you have to start thinking about increased class size, reducing unneeded staffing... I know how I am voting. how about sports programs? I realize this is the holy grail at MG but it has to be considered as it is not a education requirement

NYS says no more than a 2% tax increase. Bemus Point School Board budget is voted down but these Board members opts to instruct the public to take their 5.67% increase. They authorized our money to be spent on slide shows when they should have rolled up their sleeves and cut 3.67% or more. Excuse us "under educated" tax payers but your math always favors $150,000+ administrators', tenor teachers and life long union benefit packages or like always you threaten our kids with an axe. VOTE NO ON THE SCHOOL BUDGET AND YES TO REPLACE EVERY ONE OF THOSE SCHOOL YARD BULLYS!

What is the cost per student? How does that compare to other school districts? Maybe that is the benchmark voters should consider.
