Ignorant people choose to train those types of breeds to be vicious so of course you will see them on the list. Pitbulls will cause harm to themselves if the master wants that. Loyalty you can trust. You said "attacked", not fatally wounded. There are so many attacks each year by many different breeds. Although they are not fatal so they often go unreported unless a huge hospital bill is incurred. I will take a pit from the pound any day. Because unlike humans, they are easier to train and often times will treat you better. Rachael Ray owns a pitbull and swears by the breed. If you were to do some actual research into all the good, famous and hero pitbulls out there you would be amazed. The "Vick" dogs have been reformed and I know of one that is now a therapy dog. But you have been lead astray as many are by the media. They have a way of misleading those with weak minds.

Fact: Dogs are cute and fun. Hint: If you want one of these cute creatures, learn everything it means to be a dog owner, not just the cute part.

Fact: some of these people who let their dogs poop on other's property and not pick it up, don't pick up the poop inside their own homes. (I've had the pleasure of seeing this more than once).

Hear, Hear, Good letter Bruce! "...If you don't want it on your property what makes you think other people want it on theirs. If you don't want your company to step in it and track it into your house what makes you think other people do. If you don't want your lawn mower to run over it what makes you think others do. If you don't want to shovel it off of your lawn what makes you think others want to. If you don't want your kids to accidentally roll in it what makes you think other people do..."

"I will say it again: dog poop on a lawn is not a police matte"

Overdrive - you sound as if you think the police are driving around looking for dogs dumping on a lawn. Are you serious??? There is a law on the books. If Bruce sees a dog dumping on his lawn and it is not cleaned up, he has every right to call the police and have the moron responsible for not cleaning it up fined. So I guess you don't want litering laws enforced? What other laws don't you want enforced - how about walking around naked? Or someone spitting on you. Should they be ignored also? Don't like the local law - do something about it!

I used the 2 kinds of dogs based on information from wikipedia using heading fatal dog attacks 2013,Go ahead and take a look at the breeds that are listed.I dont see a retriever on the list,do you? And yes it is the owners responsibility to keep their dogs out of other peoples yards.

GETAGRIP- First why name the pitbulls and rottweilers by breed? They are no more harmful then a retriever. Unless you are talking about their *****! Second I hope you are aiming that big ol' gun of yours at the owners who allow their dogs to poop on your lawn and not the dogs. Dogs are direct reflections of their owners, yes my gas can be bad too.

If a dog owner is not responsible enough to pick up his "own" animals excrement, why would you think they would be responsible enough to make sure that they keep their dog leashed. The original letter also was talking about using other peoples lawns, not the street.GET A GRIP

Police always have priorities. Is that a shock to anyone? Using police resources to go after people whose don't pick up their dog's duty is a waste of their time. That's not the same thing as a vicious dog running loose.

I like that point overdrive about who cares if a dog runs down the street.....I hope its not one of your family members that gets attacked by a careless owners pitbull or rotweiller.Oh but i guess thats just petty.

This letter is another example of mean-spirited petty Jamestown. Who cares? Gee a dog ran down the street, let's involve the court. Who cares? Gee, there's some dog poop on the street, OMG, let's get the police involved. Almost anything is more important.
