Speed Kills

Driving Data Highlights Speedy Motorists In County

June 9, 2013

By the time you see them, it’s already too late. Motorists with a lead foot, be forewarned. More speeding tickets are issued in Chautauqua County than any other driving violation....

Maybe if they make speeding violations as costly and stigmatized as DWI they would stop. I know habitual speeders who get slaps on the wrist and elderly drivers who have repeatedly run into garage doors and backed into mailboxes and get off scott free. Yet people leaving local bars are subject to roadside DD checkpoints to see if they had more than one drink with no probable cause.

To me it is strange where the blame is put....speeding, drunk driving, running red lights(I lost 2 family members this way) the driver, the individual is blamed. When it relates to a firearm - the individual is not blamed it the guns fault........

When I am on the interstates my cruise is set at 75.I have never been stopped.Must have gone through 100 radar's. I think you may deserve a ticket if your going faster than that.I believe the cops are the reasonable ones when it comes to this.

Speeding tickets have nothing to do with safety...it is just meeting a quota...

duckster too may have noted that speeds on local roads keep getting reduced. Makes for more tickets, not more safety.

Speed does not kill. Incompetent drivers kill. There are many drivers at or under the speed limit who make me concerned for my safety. Running red lights, no turning signals, not maintaining the proper lane, etc.

If you are willing to spend the money there are two radar detectors on the market (high end models) that will defeat 97% of all units. I bought one and it can be updated via the web every month. It has saved me several times. Ironically I am a slow driver who's only crime is a tendency to not always pay attention (it is unusually easy to be driving 40 in a 30) Kind of sad when the people who are supposed to protect us are part of the local Court fine mills. Make no mistake.. it is legalized extortion.

If they were fighting crime there would be less tickets also, what a novel idea.
