This is a perfect example of why it's so important for the people to closely monitor the judicial system. Ideology of judges plays an important role in who the political parties appoint to higher courts. For example, a couple of years ago, Washington State voters passed a referendum that put a cap on license plate fees. The Democratic governors over the last quarter century had managed to install a majority of liberal judges to the State Supreme Court. They overturned the voters' will by nullifying the referendum allowing the fees and taxes to be raised. The basis for their decision, the voters didn't understand what they were doing. They were too dumb to know what was good for them. Liberals believe this and prove it over and over by their actions, isn't that right, Mayor Bloomberg?
