"but I also have many questions to ask that if you have problems with a circus and some with zoo's, how can you not have issues with..."

Who said the author doesn't?

I went to Circus Circus a few months ago and thought it was a great place. I did not see any animals but I did win over a $1000.00 on a slot machine. Oh wait, this letter is only about "Circus" and not "Circus Circus". Never mind.

The animal rights groups have been trying to make a case against the Ringling Brothers circus for inhumane treatment of their animals for years and have resorted to lies and illegal activities to do it. They have failed.

The courts twice that I am aware of have found AGAINST the animal rights extremists and in one case it cost them a lot of money for their lies.

Choose not to go if you wish but many choose to go as is their right.

There is less mistreatment of modern circus animals than many pets. BTW---do you keep a pet while blasting the circus for having animals. What are dog crates, dog chains, cat carriers, bird cages, leash's, etc. Careful about throwing stones.

@ PWU...I do have a problem with the other inhumane situations you listed...therefore I have been a vegetarian for 30 years. Before everyone gets their panties in a twist, I am not judging anyone else's actions or reactions. I am only responsible for MY actions that's why I have made the choice to boycott circuses, eat a plant based diet, refuse to go fishing, avoid leather and fur etc. Do I wish others would be more conscious of their choices? Sure. But I'm not going to go extremist on you!

I think we ought to cage innocent humans up and subject them to the same treatment as circus/rodeo animals for the rest of their lives.

omg Most of the animals any more are more like their pets and far from wild. There are amost as domestic as my wild cat and Furocious Chihuahua!

I totally disagree that the circus is no fun for animals. Shame on the promoters who try to make a buck from these poor creatures who are caged most of their life. And when they're not traveling, they're forced to perform ridiculous tricks in the name of entertainment! If families want their kids to see wildlife, they should take a hike outside in nature. I will definitely be banning in this cruel event and will encourage friends and family to do the same.

Excellent letter - well written. I'm 89 and I stopped going to circuses years ago in my teens because of the cruel and inhumane treatment whichthe writer points out. Odd that no one mentioned "rodeos" which to me are another form of animal abuse. Ditto for zoos which remove wild creatures from their natural habitats so that we "humans?" can stare at them!!

I can go to the Circus in Jamestown any time I want. I just stop at (what used to be the Wilson Farms Store) on Washington Street and hang out.

I understand what the writer and others are saying, but I also have many questions to ask that if you have problems with a circus and some with zoo's, how can you not have issues with: a) Our Food Sources? Cows on top of each other, chickens being served at different sizes, Pigs in small areas. b)Horses being used in different settings. c) Fishing for the fun, such as catching and then releasing.

I have never taken my daughter to a circus for those reasons stated by the writer. I find them sad and depressing. What those poor creatures have to endure is maddening. Thanks for the letter!

The author is right on. Occasionally you hear of circus animals that turn crazy and attack their handlers or go on a rampage... is there any question why?

It's also doubtful that a circus traveling through Jamestown is employing a top notch verternarian. I understand back in the day, it was amazing to see an elephant. But now we have many zoos in a two hour radius that are "better" for the animals, have significantly more animals to see, and don't have any clowns! I am normally not a big animal rights person but circuses are an antiquated form of entertainment.
