SAFE Act Violation Much Smaller Than Actual Crime

May 19, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: I read with much relief the May 10 article on the front page emphasizing the violation of the SAFE act. That a law abiding ... no wait .....

SAFE Act just the latest in a recent string of politically motivated idiocies foisted on the New York State residents. Spitzer forced AIG CEO Greenberg out and replaced him with the bunch that ruined the company. Then Cuomo picked up the baton and went to court against Greenberg and the result was a loss for the taxpayers. Now, even though NYS doesn't have a snowball's chance to win, Cuomo's successor is going to waste taxpayer money to continue court proceedings. The only logical reason I can think of is that this farce is going to put millions of taxpayer dollars into lawyers pockets. Same for the SAFE Act! This state has a bleak future unless voters wake up and stop electing Democrats for as long as it takes to break up this cycling of taxpayer money to lawyers who in turn donate millions to the Democratic Party.

Mr. Dole, great letter! You have very aptly described the fallacy of the SAFE Act. Gee, I wonder if the low information crowd will get it.

Please note that the crook in question had apparently stolen the guns, likely from law-abiding citizens who only wanted them for protection. This readily available supply of firearms is the reason why criminals will always have guns.

It is evident, the low information folks don't get it.

Criminals don't follow laws... The SAFE law did nothing to stop this criminal... If this criminal were still in jail, he could not have stolen this gun and committed another crime.

Everyday I read how criminals won't follow laws anyway. Then we should just get rid of all the laws. You want smaller government? Get rid of the lawmakers.. We don't need the House or Senate because criminals won't follow their laws anyway. The AG and the Justice Department - out the window. There will be no laws to prosecute. Why bother with all this nonsense as criminals don't follow the law anyway. Now, this is when I agree we will all need plenty of guns and they sure would be easy to get!

Sensationalism. Word has come down from Albany to fluff up any SAFE Act violations for public relations purposes. This in complete disregard for the overall importance that such violations may have in relationship to the other, far more serious charges. I would certainly hope that local LEO's, looking to get their name in the paper, are not calling up the media and excitedly announcing, "OH, OH, we just caught another one!".

Couldn't have "borrowed" it from Bill Maher, since I have never watched him and am unaware of anything he says or does. It is very telling, Gio, now we know where you get your news and opinions. And, from what I know of Bill Maher, he one of the most despicable, vile humans on the face of the earth.

Your right Mac! Bill Mahar is the poster child for the left along with his pal Mikey Moore.

Oh, and gio - you forgot your standard post when posting about guns, so I'll help you put, "if it would save just one child". You're welcome giogump.

The only time Bill Maher was ever associated with the truth was when he hosted his former show. It was called "Politically Incorrect".

“But I’ve often said that if I had — I have two dogs — if I had two retarded children, I’d be a hero. And yet the dogs, which are pretty much the same thing. What? They’re sweet. They’re loving. They’re kind, but they don’t mentally advance at all. … Dogs are like retarded children.” — Bill Maher

“I thought when we elected a black president, we were going to get a black president. You know, this [BP oil spill] is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt so you can see the gun in his pants. That’s — (in black man voice) ‘we’ve got a motherfu**ing problem here?’ Shoot somebody in the foot.’”– Bill Maher
