A sales tax that prevents an increase in property taxes is a way for wealthy people - property owners - to benefit while poor people who don't own property but pay sales tax on everyday purchases get the shaft. It's a regressive tax and a way to redistribute wealth from the bottom up. I think this plan stinks.

Why not eliminate the bed tax totally? Do we really need that extra $20,000 to balance the county budget? Obviously not.

Sure let's raise the sales tax up another .5% so it would give people in the county a even better reason to go buy high ticket items somewhere else but in Chautauqua county. Great idea to drive business out of the county.

Where are those snowmobilers staying because it sure isn't in the lodging establishments. You would be better off getting your money from the sales tax not the occupancy tax.
