Fracking In NYS Presentation Was Biased

May 8, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: A letter in the April 4 Post-Journal claimed that the “Fracking in NYS” presentation at the Prendergast Library in March was apparently “biased” according to the tag line....

Interesting points, it does seem logical that conservation and protection of earth's resources jives with traditional religion, besides simply being common sense.

Well said, Paul. God has given us everything we need to survive and thrive on this Earth without fouling it. As we use more sophisticated methods to extract the energy sources we have been using for the last 100 years, more effort should be spent of developing our next major energy sources.

Former Head of the EPA Lisa Jackson has been quoted as saying fracking is safe. Even Obama believes it is safe! When are you folks going to get your head out of the sand?

I don't have my head in the sand because when the frackers come along it will be completely polluted...

just kidding. Kinda. It'll only be half-polluted.

Consumption is nearly always the same thing as materialism and selfishness. According to Jesus and the Bible, selfishness and materialism are commanded against. So yes, Biblical principle goes almost completely against the overuse and abuse of the environment we live in - since humans do it for selfish gains.

I'm sorry but what in the world does the bible have to do with fracking? It is complete interpretation of an outdated text.

What is Jesus' take on cell phones? I wonder if the bible should have told apple not to change the connections for the iPhone 5 because everyone has to buy adapters? Is God a Ford or a Chevy guy?

I am sure if you look and stretch the meaning of many of the passages in the bible, you can make them fit any viewpoint you choose.

Turn off the gas. Buy bullets. Let God sort them out. I have a solar calculator, solar light, and a pin wheel.

Humans don't truly care about the environment. If they did, we'd have said no to places like Tim Horton's heading towards Rte 86 - they cleared a lot of land for a small trinket of taxes and jobs. BUT...at the same time, they absolutely refused a bottle and can redemption (recycling center) that would have taken the burden away from stores like Tops - right next door.

Yeah! Let's make thinking sound like a bad thing, Scallywag. It sure does boil my blood when people are capable of things I can't do. I feel so inferior, and that offends me.

My goodness, we're lucky you didn't catch somebody doing M A T H. (Sorry for the four-letter word.)

Latest report from a community in PA that had gaseous odor blamed on fracking. Turns out it was due to natural release of the gas. Just like the Santa Barbara oil spill that resulted in California banning drilling for oil. UC-Santa Barbara did a study a couple of years ago and found that since they stopped drilling there has been more naturally occurring seepage over the years than the amount of oil in the spill. In fact, the study claimed that drilling would have reduced the pressure causing the seepage.

"I am sure if you look and stretch the meaning of many of the passages in the bible, you can make them fit any viewpoint you choose."

Key word is "stretch". There are correct ways and incorrect ways. This is called "evaluation".

"What is Jesus' take on cell phones?"

He wouldn't own them. He'd give the money they'd cost to the poor to feed them.

So Jesus was a democrat? Maybe he wouldn't own one and instead of giving the money to the poor to feed them, he would just give them a cell phone. All the poor people in Jerusalem would have been running around saying "follow Jesus, he is giving out free phones" the other hard working people in Jerusalem would call them Jesusphones. This way the poor people will have a way to call around and ask for a job or get into selling illegal goods.

Who said that?

"All the poor people in Jerusalem would have been running around saying "follow Jesus, he is giving out free phones" the other hard working people in Jerusalem would call them Jesusphones."

Maddog, I'm getting the impression you don't do much research...if you did, the soundbyte of a single person talking about a phone program that was begun by the previous president - heh, but then again...when you listen to Fox News all day, you get distorted.

It was a program that was actually started under Reagan and called Lifeline, Mr. Research....GW changed it to included cell phones as well as home phones. Obama and fellow democrats cranked it up from 800 mil in 2009 to 2.2 bil in 2012. Sure a single sound byte or youtube clip started that saying but you and everyone else on here knew what I was talking about. So it was prudent.
