Emelye, you make good points. We here constantly of NYS's high taxes and regulations. As to taxes, lowering them has to coincide with more efficiency, smarter spending, consolidation, etc. As to regulation, I don't know... what are the true problems with system as is? The issue of high insurance costs that's been brought up a few times seems one issue that could possibly be tackled.

One area where I think state & federal spending makes sense is towards the demolition and/or renovation of vacant industrial buildings. This not only would make things more enticing for industry, but also curbs urban decay, eliminates unnecessary sprawl, and can encourage further urban renovation... domino effect.

Lower taxes for business = less services for the people of our state or higher taxes for them. The majority of the people lose.

Less regulation = less protection against a business' abuse of labor, consumers and fiscal responsibility. The majority of the people lose.

Cheaper power = more environmental damage from the lack of adequate regulation: poisoned air, water and land sacrificed for short term commercial gain. The majority of the people lose.

Again, the PJ comes in on the side of "business" even though the people that are protected and served by government services and regulations end up losing far more than they would gain from such one sided policies.
