Seadog, I wonder what YOUR gay friends think of that. Oh, you don't have any gay friends? Of course you do. They just wouldn't tell someone like you that they are gay.

that's the stragety of some on the right--endless repetition---over and over again--hoping for a different answer, when the factual answer isn't what fox has advised them of.

Keep asking questions that have been answered dozens of times, Seadog. If you have such a poor memory perhaps you should write it down. Now why are you here?

I have stated as well as a number of others have stated our "rationale" for not believing in same sex marriage. Other than money and benefits, you have not given a reason to support it. I wonder what your gay friends think of that?

Emely, notice that when seadog is asked honest questions about his stance, he just reverts to a child and implies his opponents are gay. Sad to see in an adult. Tells us alot.

Poor Seadog. Thats for being the one who shows us that the conservative view on this is so childish. I wonder if your buddies are thanking you. :)

seadog, glad you are back and still not caring. Right, just like the white Americans who fought for black freedom didn't mean much, right?

Anywho.. "Can you explain to me the rationale for supporting civil unions yet thinking gay marriage should be legal"?

:)

"Marriage is defined as between a man and woman; that's the definition, it always has been as far as human history is concerned. Now with that established . . ."

Lol, good one, kawasakikid. We all believe you and know you wouldn't just make things up to support your side of the discussion. Ohh noooo.[/snark]

"Civil unions are new things, just like gays wanting their same-sex relationship recognized is new." Uhh, no, wrong on this one too. All legal marriages are civil unions. The government registers the contract (marriage certificate) and only the government (judges) can legally dissolve a marriage (contract).

Heterosexuals don't have a monopoly on love and commitment either. The word, "marriage" and all it connotes, should be available to ALL deserving couples, not just the straight ones. Anything less and you;re still delegating same sex couples to second class status.

lol, this one's still kickin'! Oh boy.

Seadog, why does my sexual orientation mean anything when we are discussing civil rights and Constitutional protections? What difference does it make?

If you see a man beating a horse would you walk away saying nothing because you're not a horse? Do you really believe it's wrong to stand up for what you think is right, even when the wrong being committed doesn't affect you?

If I am lesbian or not, makes NO difference to the arguments I post here. Your question is pointless.

So, why is it monkeyboy, jamestownfan18, ememle, and Todayalice won't post that they are gay. If they are not, there comments aren't really worth much since the "harm" they speak of was not done to them.

Secondly, kawasaki, which 'long established definition of marriage' are you talking about? Marriage existed before your religion. And nope, wrong again, marriage is about equality. Never seen anyone fail quite so bad at a simple question.

But, i'm giving you another try. :)

Sorry, nice try kawasaki, but just saying 'marriage is man and woman has always been and always should be' isn't a rationale.

So again, what is the rationale, the actually logical rationale, for supporting civil unions and not gay marriage?

So the reason is "That's the way it has always been so that's the way it always should be". We'd still be living in caves is we used that as a reason for anything.

Marriage is defined as between a man and woman; that's the definition, it always has been as far as human history is concerned. Now with that established, the issue is over whether we should change the meaning of the word "marriage" or not. It isn't about so-called rights or how people feel or second class citizenship, etc. It's about the meaning of words and whether so well established a definition should be changed. Heck, let's change the definition of man to "anyone who feels male" and woman to "anyone who feels woman." Let's play word games for everything. May as well make life more confusing. Everyone or group has the right to define any word in any way that suits them. Let's go the whole way!

"what is the rational for supporting civil unions but not thinking marriage should be legal."

marriage is between a man and a woman; that's marriage. It's a pillar of all society for all of history. It shouldn't be changed, period. Civil unions are new things, just like gays wanting their same-sex relationship recognized is new. It better suites the nature of their relationship IF they must have some kind of recognition. If they won't stop nagging, give them civil partnerships. Marriage isn't the right or fitting name or description of a gay relationship of that nature.
