Fortunately, there ARE Christian churches (and other faith communities, as well) where "compassionate, thinking, rational human beings do not favor harmful, categorical, senseless discrimination." You just have to look for them.

Lol JH, if you have to look for them, why even bother trying at all? I know a local pastor that is critical of those who "church hop" - those who try to do exactly this.

Compassion for perverts is one thing. Legitimizing perversion is another.

What's "organizaed" religion?

Sorry, Jazzie, you sound angry, and I don't blame you. No one's asking you to be religious, or even spiritual, but if you are, just Google "open and affirming" to find a church where they don't make you check your brain at the door. There are even a couple in Jamestown.

So is unorganized religion the alternative and what makes that better? I like a previous comment made here: what exactly is "organized religion?" Trog, you're comment is right on target!

What specific churches are favoring harmful, senseless discrimination?" Are you saying that the other churches have no discrimination at all? What makes one set of churches or faith communities rational and thinking and the others not so?

Sorry, Mel. Trog's comment refers to the misspelling of "organizaed."

I assume when the author says "organized religion" he is refering to the christian religion. Christians do not hate or discriminate when they declare the word of God. I hate homosexuality because it is a sin and I hate sin. I do have many homosexual friends that I love because they are people.

Oops, apologies. Thought Mel was referring to Gemni5's comment.

Yes there are many "churches" that will tell you it is okay to sin as long as you feel good about what you are doing. This is not the path that God chose for us to take. These churches are of the enemy.

My church is the Bible. For the vast majority of Americans who believe in God, we believe the Bible is the word of God. It doesn't get any better.

Just a question... as of 11:11am, I have 5 disagrees to the quote "Great Letter"

So the 5 of you, (I assume are god fearing church goers) Where are your open arms?

Loan, let me be the first to "agree" with you!

Maybe I misinterpret this letter with regard to compassion. Either way, organized religion is killing itself.

I stopped going to church twice in my life. The first time being catholic and the 2nd time attempting to attend another church and felt that money was more of the issue than the open arms.

My own favorite quote is.... "How can you give me the sign of the peace during one hour and treat me like crap for the next 6 days and 23 hours?"

OOOOH, us righties HATE this letter!!!! We don't need to treat them as equals!!!! We already treat interracial marriages as equal, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM US!!!

WE ARE CONSERVATIVES AND WE are going to call people with different sexual identities than us 'perverted' and then fold our arms!!!

Then we will pretend we don't care, but secretly we will try to block their marriage!!

Dummy libs.

Not us conservatives!!! Our judgemental division will NOT send us to hellfire!!! Just people who want to be the sex they are attracted to.....OUR LOVING GOD WILL SEND THEM TO BURN!!

THATS THE GOD WE LOVE!! Whether it makes sense or not!!

Alice, I usually enjoy your commentary, but its not needed with this subject.

Loan, thats what I thought, but once outside those doors, peoples attitudes disregard what "was just preached".

Also, please keep in mind that "Christian Values" are not the only god fearing religion. I have give respect the "all" religions. Its not our job to direct other religions.
