You are right Mr. Casnov, but you can't lower the minimum wage without overhauling the whole system. Ron Paul wanted to do this, yet no-one would listen! He was and still would have been the best President. He knew what had to be done. We have inflation by design, to bankrupt our country, and until we can start over with someone like Ron Paul nothing will change. We are headed towards a total collapse of our economy. It's only a matter of time.

What's funny is everyone reading this knows that if we dropped the minimum wage back to what it was 10 years ago (5.15 if I recall) that prices would NOT go down. That's the ridiculous stone-cold fact.

Just look at it - we raised it 25% over 5 years and prices only nominally increased.

STOP WITH THE FEAR MONGERING.

"You can raise min wage to anything you want, but you can never force a company to add to payroll."

Competition forces businesses to be efficient. Working people to death, turnover, training costs are not efficient. It is almost always a bluff when companies say they will cut people in order to level with things like wage increases. That is why when push comes to shove the big yaps back down. That's the benefit of the market portion of a mixed market economy.

"The wages you complain about making prices too high. That's why they call it inflation."

You clearly know nothing about economics.

"Why not stay on track or stay quiet?? "

Unfortunately, the PJ forum is chock full of people who have no life. They spend all their afternoons avoiding their husbands/wives, avoiding doing anything productive (Judge Judy isn't on after 6 pm), and pretending they are something they are not (lots of business people here, hahahahaha). They also like to spend time switching between login names in order to create the false impression their ignorance has backers. So sad...so....so sad.

"You guys confuse me. You complain about corporate (share holder) profits, and brag about the high numbers on wall street for investors."

Not all corporate compensation is stock. Only portions, varies depends upon the CEO, company, and contract.

Also, the increase in the stock market lifts ALL boats, not only the top. The top gets more from it but those who have any investment portfolio can attest. Clearly, you don't.

What has kept up with inflation? Oil prices, DEO wages, Wall Street wages, Land prices, Car prices, etc. If your wages are not going up with inflation, you need to get a better job not try to lower other people's wages.

DavidVA- Where were you in the 60's? This Nixon "Southern Strategy" thing is a new one that I haven't heard before when it comes to jobs. His "Southern Strategy" thing was to welcome Southern Democrats disaffected with JFK's enforced integration. In hindsight, it was a very poor decision because it allowed Democrats to portray Republicans as Racist, even to this day. After all, they had been Democrats for 100 years because it was the Republicans who led the way in abolishing slavery. What drove the jobs south from NY and Jamestown was the higher taxes imposed by a Progressive GOP Gov. Nelson Rockefeller. To this day I'm not sure of his main reason for hiking taxes, whether to give more benefits to those on the public dole in NYC or because he suffered from an "inherited wealth guilt complex" like Jay Rockefeller (D-WV).

A company that has 50 people making min wage would never add to payroll if min wage goes up. They would cut 5 positions and the other 45 would have to pick up the slack. They would only add to payroll if there is an increase in business to justify it. You can raise min wage to anything you want, but you can never force a company to add to payroll.
