It's interesting that the governor has chosen to pass along federal cuts in Medicaid to those with disabilities. How about cutting some of over-the-top welfare benefits? Just instituting a 6 month residency requirement to collect welfare would more than cover that $120MM.

If Cuomo had the guts to cut things across the board then maybe I could justify this move. But the waste, fraud and abuse in our welfare system is where the bleeding needs to stop. Once again he is ignoring it.

This is outrages! However, yankee and George, let's put the blame where it really belongs. Your beloved House of Representatives are responsible for the $500 million cut in Medicaid. This is exactly what the republicans want. Vote Goodell and Young into congress and see how they would fight to get that 500 million back. What is Reed doing? No mention of the root cause here just ' we'll try and get it back'. Hogwash!

George, You need to understand that the "welfare dollars" that you talk about is federal money. Really has no affect on our state dollars.

I agree that this governor has begun to chip away at the needs. Also, all of those that want to see cuts in government employment, its happening. New York State is contracting out more and more work to minimum wage jobs. This minimum wage increase in reality is to boost interest in jobs with low or no benefits.

It's only 6 percent. How about the TRC cut some of its waste. They are using the government tactics, cut where it will cause the biggest up roar not where it should come from.

More Tea Party "smaller, cheaper government" at work here. Really people, this is what happens when you cut government al la Norquist, until it becomes small enough to fit into a bathtub so you can drown it.
