Used to be we had a population in the upper 40 thousand in the 60's. Where have all the people gone. Awwww they left NY state. I wonder why. What is left is welfare and no one left willing to work. How long I can stay in my house and pay these taxes I have no clue. But I can understand why some people may decide to fine a better way. How stupid can one state be?

This story is in error. My King Obama said things are getting better. It was while he golfs with Tiger.

honestly , this has been coming along time , local politicians have destroyed Jamestown and the county since seventies changing county from industry to tourist count. Just look at Jamestown and see how many factories distributors and other place of employment have left over 75 percent. We are the third highest taxed in state and top ten in U.S,

Mrsgio and the rest, why don't you read the entire article or do you just deliberately want to pass over that New York state's overall economy added 29,600 jobs in January, and New York state's strong economy continues to grow in 2013 and is setting records for consecutive job growth. Get that? Setting records for continued growth in NY!!! You see what you want to see you are so partisan. I see change, and yes you can believe it because it is FACT!!

How's that hope and change working for you out there? Guess, Obama's financial "chickens" have come home to roost.

I saw 3 signs saying "now hiring" this morning while driving to work. Oh I forgot, its easier to just collect the benefits and sit on ur butt and drink the beer that my taxes paid for than it is to go to work.

Many of you are talking about Obama, why? Did you not read the part of the article (i.e. the WHOLE article) where it is about the county? Weird.

Amazing how good the numbers are for the state, especially the large percentage rise of private jobs and fall of gov. jobs. That's encouraging.

"The job sector which decreased employment the most was government, which dropped by 11,800 jobs. The manufacturing sector also decreased, losing 9,500 employees since last year."

The Teapublican work toward smaller government is working - and contributing mightily to the unemployment rate. The corporatist politicians who set conditions favorable to exporting manufacturing jobs are doing almost as much harm. When are people going to realize they've been sold a bill of goods by the plutocratic wealthy elite?

The upper class is raking in the wealth at an ever increasing rate, as shown by the record highs on Wall Street while former middle class working people, particularly the middle aged, are finding it impossible to find a job at all, let alone one that pays a living wage. Face it, the American people have been had!
