I just hope the Boy Scouts do what they believe is best for their organization, and not cave to public pressure one way or the other.

Also Mr. Rabb... not allowing a group on campus because you disagree with their views? I think that is called discrimination.

Wrong, CityMedic, disagreeing with views is not discrimination. I sure hope you really aren't a city medic.

Why doesn't someone start the Gay Scouts? Then there would be no discrimination in their ranks. Again, this is about power. You (Boy Scouts) are exclusive so we're going to break you. I'm sick of this leftist power grab.

So a member of the gay community is telling us --that if a gay boy wants to join the BSA fo become a better man(????????????) then let him. And this guy is a college professor, etc. Yikes. Seems to me that is a bit contradictory, a gay boy wants to be a man...... I'm with Mrin. let them start their own organization. Leave the BSA alone!!!

Leftist power grab? Trying to end a clearly discriminatory policy is a power grab? Really?

It disgusts me that this kind of discrimination is still, at some level, acceptable in our society today. Yes, gay boys can become better men and the boy scouts, when they are doing good, can contribute to that. Seeing people refused membership because of the way they are whom they are attracted is archaic.

There is simply no defense for that kind of attitude.

Why are the boys Discussing sex? BSA is not a sex org. How do the young boys know the sexuality of each other? I ask my sons and they say they are kept very busy earning badges, camping, etc.

I fear that some who disapprove with this private org will no longer support it.

Gays can join just like any other person cant they? Whats stopping them? If they could not join, that would be discrimination.

Howard, unfortunately this probably is a city medic. I worked for WCA services for a short period of time (found another job with a better schedule). One medic in particular is a terrible homophobic, racist, and sexist man. Don't know why they put up with him there.

To address sueanne's comment that "Gays can join just like any other person, can't they?", the answer is currently that no, they cannot. BSA policy is currently no gay scouts or leaders.

It's been a long time since my brother was a boy scout, and I suppose it could have changed, but I don't recall them teaching anything about sex or sexual orientation. I doubt most parents would want them to. Mostly they worked on all sorts of community service and skill badges. I don't see why sexual orientation should prohibit anyone from learning or teaching those skills. I tend to support the idea of increasing the number of capable, socially conscious people in the world.

The BSAs are a private organization and can do what they want. I'll also note that enforcement of certain Scout rules varies on the local level. However, enrollment in BSA has plunged dramatically since the 1970s, and if they want to complete with other organizations for members, they have to think about this.

You are wrong as usual Lecter. It;s you who does not uderstand free speech. Not only can I think ill of you or any group, but I'm allowed to say so. I know you progs think you decide, but you don't.

I perfectly understand and think you have every right to say whatever you think, not matter how ill informed, bigoted or hate filled it might be. I can't decide who says what or how anybody feels.

What I can do, and will do is to respond to your comments and feelings. And if I want to call it hate filled or bigoted I will do so. Free speech does not mean that your comments are not free from criticism. What it does mean is that the government can't shut your mouth and stop you from expressing your views.

Its not enough to be a scout, Its all about being a Gay scout. Well, The rest of the scouts dont seem to have a need to pronounce their sexuality and I dont want my kids discussing their sexuality or anyone elses.
