Pelican Mfg. was on this site back in the '80's. I used to work there. Trichorethelene used as a degreaser for the paint line was dumped outside the building. I don't think the Drycleaning place had much to do with the contamination. Might want to send the bill to Mr. Noon.

Tighten your belts tax payers. Just when you think your property value could go no less in our city, after accepting the fact, they drop this? Back in the "day" these were know as "super sites". As God as my witness, I would take 14 Apple Yard housing projects over this. Have the water shed folks heard about this?

Who Pays? The City or the County? If the county now owns the property will county taxpayers be forced to pay?

$1.26 million to clean up .22 acres works out to $132 a square foot. That means this empty, useless lot is, by far, the most expensive piece of land in Jamestown.

If only $1.26 million could be found for urban redevelopment instead of having to be wasted on environmental remediation for an industrial site in an industrial area, with no apparent health risk to the public. Maybe it should just be paved over instead, with the hard work of environmental cleanup left for a future time when the lot represents a true hazard to public health, such as if residential development begins to encroach on it. Based on how things are going in Jamestown today, though, I'm guessing that that day will be a long, long way off.
