Well, some people bury their heads in the sand and say "it could never happen here" while others look at historical references and show appropriate levels of concern. I think there is an old saying, something about "those that do not learn from history"........more people might want to look it up.

Let's just say that historical memory can be very selective. Mostly, this is history filtered through one man's personal world view. It has as much validity as anyone else's opinion ... no less, no more. But let's agree that this is opinion, not historical fact, we're discussing here. Let me respectfully disagree with the entire lot of it.

I would disagree. A truly unbiased opinion, based on the facts presented, carries weight. Those opinions that are crafted to support a targeted goal, despite the evidence, carry no weight whatsoever. This basically encompasses the entire gun debate as the whole thing is based on misinformation and outright lies, pushed for a political agenda, and believed by those too lazy to check out the facts for themselves.
