I really don't understand how this 23-executive action anti-gun violence package that was signed into law by President Obama, is a fact. They are still debating it in Congress.

"The Canadian mentality is much different than the U.S. there aren't as many macho, small minded gun nuts as there are here." Those 18 year old US gun nuts that have been fighting and dying for the relative peace that Canada enjoys should not be questioned. Good, bad, right or wrong... It is the truth.

There is blathering going on in these posts, but it is not coming from those with informed opinions about guns. It is coming from uninformed people like you, Lil. You like to attack those who have a different opinion than yours. Let me say this again, the 2nd Amendment is in the Bill of Rights, which is part of our Constitution, which IS the law of the land. This right is equally as important as the rest in the Bill of Rights. These are our God given rights. The government taking our rights away creates tyranny. There are numerous examples around the world of regimes that take away rights. That's why people from around the world want to come here! Wake up!

Lilrud, you are right in the sense that Canada doesn't have as many "macho, small minded gun nuts" because their population is 30 million compared to our 300+million! But, apparently, they have enough of those rascally "macho, small minded gun nuts" because they OVERTURNED their legislation where they were confiscating guns! Truth be told, Canada has moved to the right and is now much more conservative than it was 20 years ago(I actually know this first hand, we own property in Canada and go there frequently).

The Canadian mentality is much different than the U.S. there aren't as many macho, small minded gun nuts as there are here. There is intelligent discussion of issues which is more than I can say for this paper. The Tea Partiers push for smaller government until something happens and then they say spend more on the mentally ill, build more prisons! Well that costs money people. The opinion forum have people blathering on like they have the answers. The solution to this problem is not simple.

The government, state and federal, are coming for the citizens guns. They are not blatantly saying we are coming to your house and taking them. They are doing this incrementally. Like Cuomo banning anything more than a 7 round magazine. Most gun manufacturers make guns with magazines larger than 7 rounds, which outlaws all the others(now legal gun owners will be illegal and have to surrender their firearms to comply and be legal).
Canada just overturned their national registry of guns. Canada did confiscate guns. After their Parliment passed the law to register guns, they would decide which features of guns were illegal. Then they would go through their lists, and ask those possessing firearms with those now outlawed features to surrender their guns. That is how our government will do this. Fortunately for Canadians, they just overturned their national registry law.

Congrats to the organizers and all the participants. I was unable to attend but do have a seat reserved on a bus to albany 2/28. As Larry said, the meeting is this Wed a good turn out of Real Americans would be helpful. To the 2 thumb sucking contributors - you will feel more at home in front of msnbc or cnn.

The County meeting is this Wednesday, February 27 at 6:30pm. Perfect time to let the county representatives know that we want this ridiculous unSAFE act repealed!!! Turning us law-abiding citizens into criminals will not solve any of the real problems!

I have been hearing all along how this furry over "gun control" is nonpartisan. Is the mentality really that someone from the government is going to come and get your guns? Must be it will be Reed as he apparently voted with Cuomo. Nice political rally for Downey with Goodell and representatives for Young and Reed there. "We have a very good hunting community here and a very good conservative community here." That sounds nonpartisan? People - you are going to get to keep your guns. at least you had a nice little unscheduled political rally.
